First birth--36 hours. Hospital. Did not feel comfortable there. I'm sure adrealine was battling the oxytocin in my blood. Had lots of painful, long but non-productive contrax. Finally went to 9 1/2 cm and they let me push for an hour. Finally went for c-sec when they assured me I had cpd. 10 lb 2 oz baby girl. Took one year for scar to heal.
Next time, I knew about lay midwives, I hired one as a doula but I soon realized I could do it at home. I was not worried about rupture. (Rupturing of c-sec scars usually happens if the laboring woman is given Pitocin. This should never be given.) Had a nice 12 hour labor (went shopping, took nap) and an 8 lb girl, born 3 weeks early. Tiny labial skid mark tear. I felt great!
Final time, 4 hour labor, 9 lb baby boy, no tear! Ecstasy! An easy Sunday morning's work. Yes, painful, but "easy" meaning everything went like clockwork. My dd's cut the cord.
