How are you going to break the news?

Do you have any good ideas for telling your families?
I think I'm going to get my DD a shirt that says, "I'm a big sister." I'll probably tell my mom and sister in a couple of weeks, then the rest of the family on Christmas. How about you?

We did that with DC #2 and it was fun. We did it at Thanksgiving. It took forever for poeple to catch on. Maybe a wrapped present at Christmas?? We will see if I can hold out that long.

i told my sister already, but her response was "oh, well, isn't that interesting." : the rest of my family will be together for christmas, so i'm thinking maybe i'll tell them then ... i should actually be showing by then enough for them to notice (given how i feel now and how previous pregnancy went). although, who knows if i can keep my mouth shut that long. in the meantime, though, i had a m/c last year at 10.5 wks, so i know i won't tell anyone else before probably 11 weeks.

i haven't an ounce of creativity about it ... i just tend to blurt these things out.

My sister, also pregnant, was thrilled. Our toddlers are spaced 5 months apart and so will these babies! We told our big boys tonight, and they were happy too. I think the rest of the family might not totally approve, but they won't be obnoxious about it. They're pretty supportive of the home birthing too. Now the homeschooling, that's another story....

One of the best ideas I read (I'm sure here) was getting the family together for a picture, then instead of "say cheese" use "I'm pregnant!" and snap the picture.

Or copy that A & W commercial.

I haven't decided yet. We've broken the news to pretty much all of our friends, but not family yet.

My parents have been trying to come visit since Saturday -- I figured I'd tell whenever they showed up, but I may get creative since I have more time now. A friend offered to embroider me an "I'm the big sister" shirt for Adia, and I may take her up on that!

I know we're telling MIL when she gets here for a visit in December, but it's not all that unusual for us to keep things from her so that won't be tough.

I told my mom and my MIL and I'm sure everyone know now - they can't keep their mouths shut. At least I know where I get in from. When dh came home from work yesterday, I let dd greet him at the door and I told her ahead of time to give the test to him. He was confused about what it was at first but then gave me a huge smile. I caught it on tape. It was a good moment!!

that's sooo funny! i had my daughter give my husband the test too when he came home from work!

we've told some friends and aren't specifically keeping it under wraps as far as the rest of our friends are concerned. my youngest sister knows because she lives with us, but we're not telling the rest of the family for awhile actually. my family is opposed to homebirth and i figure the more months i can keep this under wraps and not have to hear about their uneducated opinions of homebirth, the better for me. (my sis says i should just wait until they notice something and ask- my dad is notorious for dumb comments about his daughters' weight, so she thinks i should just wait until he says something about me getting fat to spring it on them) my husband's family is just, well.... spaztic would be a good word i guess. they are out of state and we're going to visit them at the end of january, beginning of february, so i'm sure we'll be busted then at the latest!

My family is against homebirth as well so I am reluctant to tell them. Since the birth of my first, my mother has been making comments about finding a nice CNM in a birthing center. She didn't get along with our lay midwife, partly because we didn't invite my mother to the birth and Joy respected our choice, not hers. Nonetheless, we'll see how it goes when I finally do tell them.

I haven't told my mom or my sisters yet because I want to do it in person. Everyone's schedules are so weird, it's driving me nuts! My hubby is getting sick of hearing about it all, I'm sure.

We make short DVDs for our holiday cards with photos/video from the year set to music and send them to close family and friends. So assuming that all goes well, we're planning to end this year's DVD by showing a sneak preview of next year.

Hi. I'm new to these boards (anyone else here new to this board entirely?). I just got my positive HPT this week. I told a couple of my good friends and called my mom to tell her. I wanted to do something creative to reveal it to her, but I'm not going to see her in person until Christmas and there's no way I could wait that long. So I just phoned her.

I woke up poor DH the same morning I got my faint positive, and then sent an email to my closest friend.
Other than that, I haven't told anyone. I feel like I should tell them, they've all been supportive during my 11 months of TTC, but it's fun to have this secret.

Yay! Another newbie. We had only told two people we were even trying to get pregnant. So of course, the morning I got my positive, I emailed one and IMed the other. I told a couple other friends later that day, who were shocked, since they had no idea we were trying.

It's fun to think about how to tell people.

Oooh, I love these ideas about how to tell people! Especially the 'I'm pregnant!' picture one!

We told MIL & FIL tonight. We wrapped up the + test with our due date written on it in a box with Happy Birthday wrapping paper. Both of their birthdays are in July, so we told them that we got them an early birthday present. At first MIL thought it was some kind of toothbrush (thank god she didn't put it in her mouth!!) but then they realized what it meant and got all excited. I think it was a good way to spill the beans.

We have a few more people to tell. Dh's brother flys in for a visit this week, so ds will wear his new 'I'm a big brother' shirt to the airport to pick him up. We were also thinking of taking pics of him in his big brother shirt and emailing them out just as a new photo and see who catches on first. Ah, I love making fun surprises!
