Getting the word out

My dd Emily is 19 years old and has become possibly even more rabidly against circumcision than myself. She has distributed pamphlets to doctor's offices, stores, libraries and book stores. Her latest thing is to write a saying on paper money with a link to either nocir.com or cirp.org. Isn't it illegal to write on money? I'm very proud of her but I don't want her breaking the law.

I don't think so. Banks do it all of the time. I think you can't do it to the extent that it would obliterate necessary information such as the serial number or denomination. The average time that paper currency is in circulation is about a year so there would not be much permanent damage done. Any way, how often has a treasury agent been standing in the checkout line at WalMart? They have bigger fish to fry.

This has come up at another site I used to visit: www.wheresgeorge.com, where people write that web address on bills and track the currency numbers across the country.

From what I understand, it's legal as long as she's not obliterating large parts of the bill and it is still recognizable for use. Since paper money has a limited lifespan anyways, nobody seems to care. The only time it seems to become an issue is when someone "dumps" a large number of marked bills at a bank.
