"Grandpa Lew"

I've never posted on the grief board before, but I really wanted to share what my ds said to me today.

My dad died 21 months ago, when DS was 22 months old. I've been having a very difficult time, grief wise, with the fact that in another month DS will have spent just as much time alive without my dad as he did with him...does that make sense??? Anyway, I've been quiet about my grief lately, but DS was at the funeral, he knows that Grandpa Lew got very sick and died because it was just his time to die. He knows and understands this, the best a 3 year old can, at least.

This afternoon we were lying in bed and out of the blue he says to me "Mom, I really miss my Grandpa Lew" I told him I do too and I hugged him. Then he said "Mom, you're daddy is dead." I confirmed that yes he is. "Mom," he says, "It's really sad that your dad is dead, but you can share MY dad. He's not dead." That is probably the sweetest thing he has ever said to me. We spent a couple of minutes talking about my dad and how much his grandpa loved him and then he changed the subject and soon fell asleep. I'm feeling so emotional about this right now and I'm so glad I was able to come here and share this interaction.

Thanks for listening.

That is beautiful. We just lost my father-in-law and it is hard over here, too.
