Another Reason To Not Like Circumcision

J's 4 yr old nephew has to have surgery cause he had a botched circumision. Apparently part of the foreskin ended up growing back and covered his pee hole! They have to fix it otherwise when he gets older it would be very painful for him to have a erection!

It is awful to say but I'm glad I finally know someone that has had a botched circumcision! People (including J's family) have always told me who have you known that has had problems with their circumcision? Well now I do!

Sucks doesn't it. In fact the Canadian Pediatric Society recognizes that a circed child's chances of needing to have additional surgery to correct his circ is about 1%!

Two surgeries in such a young life, I thought one was bad enough!

Take care,

My son is having surgery to correct a bad circ too. As I sit here I am so mad at myself for letting dh make this choice. I will regret it always!

Shoot, go cruise babycenter and you'll see tons of mamas who've had circed kids with complications. Oddly, nobody seems to mentally connect the dots... if I *hadn't* done it in the first place, we wouldn't be here now.

OP- so he can't pee? Isn't this an emergency?

thundersweet, I'm in Roswell too!

My DH has problems from his circ that wasn't "botched". It all depends on what your idea of botched is..they probably do know someone..and knows them *well*. It's just most people think botched means-cut off, severe deformity. How about curved or painful erections, hair on the shaft?

: I didn't realize until just this year that many of my partners have had complications from their circumcisions. One says the skin on his penis feels like it will split when he has an erection. Several have had hair on their shafts. Several have had trouble with premature ejaculation. Not to mention the ugly scars they've ALL had...

I thought it was all 'normal'.

lulas mom,

I am with you - there have been a few partners in my life that had problems that I never connected to circ, but in retrospect I realize were circ complications. One was pretty severe, there others relatively minor, but even so, I am so glad I spared my sons this possibility.

Sounds like meatal stenosis...something 9-10% of circumcised boys aquire. It's a direct complication of circumcision, but you probably won't see it listed on any consent form...

One of my best male friends had one of those severely botched circumcisions. I guess they did it wrong and they screwed up his urethra pretty bad so they actually had to cut open his penis to fix it. He had a scar running from just underneath the head down to almost the bottom of the base PLUS a circumcision scar.

Needless to say, he doesn't get many girlfriends that stick around -- which is really sad cause he's a wonderful guy and I really hope he finds a less vapid girl sometime soon.

My dh has tight, curved erections and hair on the shaft.

Every circ is a botched circ.

He can still pee it is just the skin is over his pee hole and therefore if he gets a erection it will hurt!

Bear with me and I'll explain what this is, how it happened and what the cures are.

What he has is pathological phimosis. Now every doctor and every medical association will tell you that circumcision prevents phimosis.

But!

In the last decade or so, doctors recognized that the tight circumcisions that they were doing were causing many problems for adult men. It only took them a century to recognize this. They changed the way they do them to leave more remnant foreskin to avoid the problems but they only exchanged one set of problems for another set of problems. Now with these loose circumcisions, pathological phimosis occurs far more often in circumcised boys than it does in intact boys. Imagine that! What has happened is that the circumcision is so loose that that remnant foreskin covers the glans and the circumcision scar is now at the tip of the glans. That scar tissue has shrunken and has become non-elastic causing the glans to be trapped in the remnant foreskin and a bona fide case of pathological phimosis.

This is the treatment options:

There is a possibility that it can be treated non-surgically. I have found nothing in the medical records that documents it but, a prescription of topical betamethesone 0.05% may resolve the problen. Betamethesone is a steroid that has not been associated with any side effects so unlike some steroids, it is very to absolutely safe. It is used to allow skin to stretch and grow in preparation for skin graft surgeries and it may have the same effect for J's nephew's problem. If it doesn't work, another circumcision is in order for J's nephew.

The reason it hurts J's nephew is because the skin that would have allowed for erections has been cut away and is gone. There is no longer enough room for expansion and that hurts!

Hopefully this will work but it sure knocks the idea of circumcising to prevent the need for a later circumcision in the head. J's nephew could have lived his entire life without a circumcision and now it appears that he might get two.
