My first day on Zoloft (update day 2)

Thread Starter
I took my first dose of Zoloft this morning. After sleeping (with help of Ambien) for the last 2 nights in a row I felt pretty good yesterday and today also. Finally laughed a little bit, ate ok, felt like I was bonding with Luca. So far I've only noticed a little dizziness and some tiredness. Could that be the Zoloft or not after only one half pill (25mg) ? I know the therapeutic effect takes a couple of weeks, but I was wondering how long it takes for the side effects to appear? Any advice?

Thanks, Alex

UPDATE:

Last night I decided not to take sleep medication - bad choice. Even though Luca was wonderful and sleep well, I barely slept. I had a couple of Panic Attacks and then tossed and turned all night. This morning after my 2nd Zoloft I also got the runs I guess the side-effects are only now kicking in. Does anyone know how long the side effects will last. I was in such bad shape this morning (not mentally so much as physically).

Thanks Alex

Hi,
The side effects usually start right away and diminish over time so it oculd be from the zoloft but I have found that ambien can make me dizzy too. Be aware that even though it can be good in the short term ambien can be addictive. I hope you feel better soon...maybe getting extra sleep will help.

I went on them both close enough together that I was never sure which side effects were which. For me it was mostly, uh... digestive. Loose bowels, appetite issues... For me the Zoloft made me pretty nutty in the short term. Like two weeks. But REALLY scary nutty. It helped a lot to have people to talk to and look after me a little.

I recently went of both meds after about a year on. Going off was a bit rough for a short while... I staggered it, quit one then the other and took a few weeks tapering off each. I have been really glad to have some help through a rough patch.

Best of luck to you.

Laughing is great!!!!

Alex. Wow! Laughing is a big deal! I am so happy for you. I was SUPER dizzy with effexor for about two weeks but was also on other stuff too....It really helped me too to always have people with me (not driving either...yikes!!). That way someone was with the baby and there to tell me I was going to be okay when I started getting scared about my side effects. Sleep is a big thing with me...I need it becuase lack of it seems to trigger my anxiety/depression (my dr noticed this) so I am SO HAPPY that you slept good, even with med help, the last 2 nights......You're on the road to recovery it sounds like!!!! We are here for you and cheering you on!!!!

perhaps a little tranquilizer?

I found when taking the first doses of any antidepressant I would get so freaky I couldn't sit still, so my psych prescribed a little Klonopin for the short term just until the side effects subsided. I also took Buspar for quite a while and loved it, I must say. It may be for me that anxiety feeds depression rather than the other way around. Everyone is so different - just a suggestion to try instead of Ambien maybe.
