What's that called when...

...the peehole (pardon my layman terminology) is not at the tip of the penis, but more on top?

I bathed my 1mo intact son today and he peed in the tub. This is the first time I've been a witness to the pee. The peehole is not on the very end tip of his penis like my circ'ed son. It's on top, just a tiny bit off the tip. Normal? Not? I don't really know the anatomy of the intact penis. His ped hasn't looked at his penis yet, just opened the diaper to check for hernias, as they do.

It's called hyposapdius, and if your son has it, it sounds like a very mild case, requiring no intervention, but of course get it checked out while being sure your son isn't forcibly retracted.

Actually, I think hypospadias when the hole is on the bottom, epispadias when the hole is on top. Otherwise, I agree w/ Jackie.

No retraction, no surgery until he's old enough to decide if he wants it (cuz it's often not quite right on an adult when they "fix" things on a child.)

personally, if its just a touch to the top, rather than at the very end, i think its totally normal, that skin is a cover kinda, the true opening is under there right on the glans, you wont see the actual hole like you can see on your circed son ever probably, he wont either till he can retract.

my sons "hole" is a little oblong rather than a tiny hole and it sits just a little on top rather than at the very end.

i think he sounds perfectly normal to me.

if you want, i google image searched hypo and epispadias and found what seemed to be medically related pics and nothing too gorey or inappropriate, so you might do that as well to compare.

i think he sounds totally fine.

Did you retract his foreskin a little to look at the hole? Maybe it's possible that just from the way his foreskin was wrinkled up that it sprayed upwards. Otherwise, if it's just a minor epispadias, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd let him decide if he wants it fixed when he's old enough. And I'd just like to mention that it does not require circumcision to fix. And don't let your doctor forcefully retract him. In fact, if you don't plan on having the epispadias fixed anytime soon, there is no reason for your doc to even look.

Wendy is correct. Epispadias is when it is on the upper or dorsal side and hypospadias is when it is on the under or ventral side.

A mild case as you describe shouldn't require any medical intervention at all.
