still spotting

I was 13 weeks two days ago. Right before 12 weeks, I passed a large blood clot (approx 3 by 4 inches). It was scary and awful. The next day we found out that everything looked fine. The baby was moving a lot, etc.
After a few days of light red bleeding, I transitioned to brown, slightly clumpy spotting, usually not even on my underwear. I am still spotting in that way.

I have an appointment on Monday to see what is up. I will also have routine blood work. I am concerned that my cervix is not closed, causing me to worry about a possible (or future) infection. The mw says that it is unlikely, but is unsure.

What could the other causes be?

I don't know what the causes could be, but with ds2 (who is just a few weeks older than your ds!) I did start spotting somewhere around 10 or 12 weeks. It lasted a little over a week, but the medwives just told me to get more rest.

I'd ask if you were taking it easy, but if your ds is anything like mine, rest is a joke!
Does it seem to help at all though if you spend more time laying down and resting?

I hope they have some answers for you Monday

Jumping in from the Feb DDC

Im sorry to hear about the spotting. I know how stressful it can be. I cant offer any words of advice, cept rest as much as you can. I know its hard with little ones to rest, but you gotta take it easy. Brown blood means its old and not fresh, and can be a good sign.

Keeping you in my thoughts. Let us know how your doing and if anything changes!

I was thinking it could also be a low-lying placenta, but generally they work their way up as the pregnancy progresses. I hope everything works out fine and you have no more red bleeding!

I'm keeping you in my thoughts, Mama...I hope all goes well at the doctors appointment, keep us updated, and get lots of fluids and rest!!

Just wondering how you've been doing....any update? I am thinking about you.

I'll be thinking of you. I have a subchorionic hematoma ( pocket of blood) between my placenta and uterus that was causing some spotting (for about 3 weeks). I hope that you can find the cause and put your mind at ease. I had an ultrasound that helped me to feel much less panicky.

thanksfor the posts. I am going to the mw in a couple of hours. DH is coming also. I just couldn't bear taking care of ds and experiencing this by myself, especially if the news isn't good.

will post more info later

The baby looks fine. She (actually we have no idea if it's a girl) is moving & growing appropriately. It doesn't look as though the bleeding is affecting the pregnancy.

I had a bit of a scare because, again, we couldn't find the heartbeat on doppler (14 wks tommorow). The ultrasound gave us lots of info though. The tech wondered if having a placenta in the front might make it hard to hear a little baby heartbeat. That makes sense.

My mw couldn't find the cause of the bleeding - nothing abnormal on my cervix (both good and bad news - it would have been nice to know why this is happening). If I start to have bright red blood, I need to contact my mw, other than that I am all clear.

I really wish I could find out the cause, but am greatful that the baby looks good.

This was my first visit to this practice. Everyone was amazing. I am thrilled and look forward to going back again.

thanks for the support. it means a lot to me.

I am so glad the baby is fine! I really hope the bleeding stops soon so you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

Good to hear everything seems fine! Yes, an anterior placenta will make it harder to find baby's heartbeat, in fact one of my friends has had two (or maybe it was all three) placentas end up anterior and did make for some scary moments when doppler didn't pick up heartbeat so they rushed off for u/s. I'm wondering if that's why we had trouble finding baby's heartbeat last week... the previous two pg my placentas were posterior but ya never know.

Hoping the bleeding completely stops so you can have piece of mind.
