wow, Aquaduct. RELAX.
Whether or not the vaccines work is irrelevant to someone who believes they do. I am only saying that from her perspective, I'm sure she feels a vax would have protected her brother.
Again, if you re-read my post, you'll see that I totally agree with you all that she needs to find a ped who shares her philosophy.
I just think everyone has a right to an opinion and her personal experience probably influences her, just the way our experiences influence us.
I am still in the reading stages on vaccinations. I am planning to basically start with "no vax" and then as I read, if there is something I feel strongly the risks of not doing it outweigh the risks of doing it, I will add. So basically rather than take away vaxes, I will add vaxes *if* I come across one I feel personally is the best for our family. I think the risk weighing is different for every person.
I guess I just don't know where the hostility comes from. You run into professionals all the time who do or do not share your philosophy. Just switch peds. I know plenty of people who read the research and still decided to vax, so its not just one right answer for everyone.
The best experience I had recently was talking with a woman who runs an organization in town fighting for more information on vax, sharing info with parents, etc. She had SO much information for me, but yet did not tell me what she did with her own kids. She said it was a personal choice, and she wants everyone to make that themselves. She was SO incredibly neutral, it was unbelievable.
I believe this is the most effective and respectful way to enter any dialogue. Sharing information, making wise choices, and changing a ped or two if things like this crop up.
Just my thoughts. Best of luck to you!
XOXOXO
Beth
