I want to be able to give my 11/2 yr old a good multi-vitamin in good conscious...but every time I go to look at the kids selection (at the co-op) I get paranoid and end up not buying any.
Some of my concerns: absorbability, too much combining (aren't some vits/minerals supposed to be given separatly?), fear of re-starting constipation.
The main reason I want to give her vits, especially iron and calcium is because she has been exposed to low levels of lead (its not high enough for regular doctors to be concerned) I just want optimal wellness for my babe!

I don't give my 10.5 mo old viamins. She eats well so I'm not concerned. I think you can get bogged down but the confusion. I guess giving a multi would be of some (perhaps not optimal) benefit.
Mung beans are shown to detoxify lead from the body, and I believe garlic will also (I don't think I'd give garlic to a baby tho)
Look into the detox aspect and support with good nutrition if the vitamins seem daunting.

Yes, most definitely look into detox methods. mercola.com has an article about detoxing mercury in autistic children. There might be some useful info that you can benefit from.

Mamui, have you looked at floradix childrens liquid vitamins? It's a herbel tonic that is very gentle and eassily assimulated. Also Green Magma-powered young barley grass juice.(I SWEAR BY THIS!)It is a superfood that is loaded with almost everything we need.It is also a great detox.I've been giving it to my two&1/2 daughter since about a year and she LOVES it,and after she drinks it you can see a visable glow to her coloring. She also loves eating any type of green veggies-from dandilion to kale-and I attribute it to drinking the green magma. She has developed a taste for anything green!

Mamui,
I give my 15 month old Juice Plus Gummies, it is the phytochemicals of 17 fresh fruit and veggies a day. You can buy them on line from their website. They are all natural and not like usual vitamins. It is the good stuff from the veggies broken down. Look at their website and it explains how they do it. My daughter likes eating them. They are naturally sweetened. She does eat vegetables, but she doesn't eat much all around so it makes me feel good to know she is at least getting something good on those days when she will only eat two bites of avocado or a few beans.

We use Green Magma, too. My son is allergic to almost anything and it is the only "vitamin supplement" he hasn't reacted to as of yet. I have ordered something called SuperFood from The American Botanical Pharmacy to try because it has enzymes in it - something my son is lacking. It has spirulina, chlorella, alfalfa grass, barley grass, wheat grass, purple dulse seaweed, beet root, spinach leaf, rose hips, orange and lemon peels and non-active nutrional yeast. Anyone have any comments???
