What's your favorite baby lotion / moisturizer?

[This is a cross-post from Health and Healing. Perhaps this board is a better forum for my question?]

Now that the weather has turned cold and the heat is on in the house, DD's skin (mostly her trunk and arms) is getting very dry. She is 12 months. I have several baby lotions that were given as gifts but they seem to be more perfume than actual moisturizer. I am looking for recommendations on your favorites (more natural, little or no perfume) for your DC. I am looking for something that I can purchase as I am not really into making my own soaps, lotions, etc. (unless it is really easy ) TIA!!

I love Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Body Mosturizer fragrance free.

It makes for wonderful soft skin. I even use it in the diaper area.

Granted its not natural :

We alternate between 2 brands (can't decide which I love more )

Arbonne Baby Care lotion and there is an oil for really dry skin. I also use their SPF 30 lotion for baby (I buy it wholesale--50% off)

Burts Bee's Buttermilk lotion and skin cream
(I watch for the sale prices (50% off) at their website, or co-ops here)

all of these things and they are natural!! (or at least mostly)

Coconut oil, also adding an oat sachet to the bath helps a lot.

I use Burts Bee's baby lotion some, but mostly, I slather some jojoba oil on all of us when we get out of the shower or when skin feels dry. It isn't oily and resembles the natural oils in skin.

Whenever it seems I start to research what is safe for our baby, Weleda keeps coming up.

That is what we use. Has safe ingredients and smells nice.

Burts Bees Apricot baby oil- yummmm.

nak

sorry, you want no smell and the apricot oil smells (great!)

how about pure jojoba oil. I use that on me and the kids, and it is an extremely moisturising, safe and natural option. you can buy it in health food stores, though I get it cheaper at www.vitacost.com

I like burts bees, but the artificial fragrance bothers our sensitive skin.
mostly I make my own lotions (it's really really easy), sometimes I'll just use a little sesame or arpicot kernel oil, or cocoa butter or shea butter by itself.

I am not opposed to a natural scent (apricot sounds delicious ). Ever since I became pregnant with DD, I have been very sensitive to the scent of perfumes, colognes and other unnatural/synthetic fragrances. Thought it would eventually go away but, I am better off avoiding those anyway.

Weleda calendula baby cream at the moment. Was the Burt's apricot oil before... the burt's is delicious smelling, but I think the weleda does more for her skin.

Dead tie between Kiss My Face Honey & Calendula and Lush Potion Lotion. Both do have a light (to me) scent and have been used on our babes since infancy.

You might try bathing dc less and not doing any soap in the bath.

That's what I have always done I never have to put lotion on any of mine.

For me, though, pure shea butter has worked best.

The chemicals in a lot of the stuff listed really bug our skin. We may be more sensitive than most, though.

Whooops......totally forgot to add that my favorite lotion for me is just plain old lanolin.

It is funny that you wrote that about bathing less and with less/no soap - it is exactly what happened due to natural circumstances and it seems to have worked. Due to a hectic schedule and dd sleeping a lot more than usual (growth spurt??), this a.m. was her first bath in 3-4 days (shhh, don't tell my mother ). I used less soap (highly dillluted Dr. Bronner's) and I made sure to scrub her really good in the known dry areas (her tummy and upper back were getting bad ) Her skin has stayed pretty supple all day but, today was also more humid than usual. I'll wait a few days and see how it goes.

Thanks eveyone for all the tips!

Just fyi, even mainstreamy Dr. Spock recommends bathing once a week for kids. You strip less of their natural oils that way.

(Obviously if they are really dirty or get sick or something more often once in awhile is fine, of course.)

I see that you’re using Dr. Bronners on her. That may be contributing to the problem! I have highly diluted Dr. Bronners in soap foamers at every sink, but I can’t use them in the winter because it dries out my hands too much. In addition to the other suggestions for after bathing, you might want to try some WAHM soap instead. Here’s a few good sites: Tami's Soap Works and Chagrin Valley Soap and Craft

HTH!

My youngest dd and dh suffer from very dry skin in the winter (dh has eczema) and we use Face of the Wave Eczema Lotion (http://www.faceofthewave.com/catalog.php?category=5) I swear it has been a miracle cure! It has a very light EO scent.

I also agree with no soap and bathing less often.
