i'm not sure if this is the right place for this but.....can anyone tell me how to get rid of hair clogs without using draino.my sweet gal is almost one and my hair is still coming out in hand fulls and the kind of drain we have in the tub won't allow for any sort of "hair catcher".

thanks for any suggestions you have.

my dh uses this thing called a snake, basically a long wire coil thing. He hooks it up to the drill, shoves it all the way down the drain (it's like 8 feet long) as he runs the drill to rotate it. He always gets out the clogs that way. It's really gross, and I can't bear to watch it because of all the hair i've lost, but it works, and is non-chemical.

Drano never worked for us anyway.

I have to unscrew my drain "thingy" every month or so and stick a wire coat hanger down in there. You'll get TONS of crap out of there, but it'll work great.

I've never tried this in my tub but it works serious wonders on my kitchen sink!!! Let it dry out like over night and then pour baking soda down ther drain. might take a little while to get it down there... then pour vinagar down very very quickly cover with a wash cloth, it will foam up and ton and has always fomed up and borken up the clog in my kitchen sink! HTH!

My step dad is a plumber. His advice -- NEVER use draino! (I have never met a plumber who liked the stuff... it's caustic and it is a hazard of their profession).

Buy yourself a plumber's snake. (A wire hanger is an acceptable DIY substitute, but the snakes are better if you have tons of hair. And actually, since a plumber's snake doesn't cost that much, it is a worthwhile investment for families with lots of hair!)

If you have old drains, you may also need to do the baking soda/ vinegar trick after you unclog them, since there will still be grease stuck in there (yuck!)

If after that, you still have problems, call a plumber. (They have professional electric snakes that go really deep into the pipes). I can guarantee you the plumber will bless you for not using draino!

HTH!
