sarahlynne, I would take some extra C which is safe. Drink plenty of fluids. If you get a nasty dry throat, the kind that keeps you awake at night, take some mercurius vivicus, a homeopathic remedy. Try one dose, wait a half hour, then if it hasn't improced, take another dose, then wait another half hour and take another dose IF THERE IS NO IMPROVEMENT WHAT SO EVER. Now, after about the 3 time tryine and this remedy does not work, try something else.

Try some vit C & get some rest I know it is much easier to say than actually doing it~

hope you feel better soon

Also, get a humidifier. These work wonders when you have a cold.

What about a humidifier/vaporizer with vicks vapor rub in it to help clear out your breathing? And yep on the Vit. C - even just drinking a bunch more orange juice helps. And, try to increase your probiotic intake (eat yogurt) - they help your system guard against any more invasion. And if you aren't vegetarian/vegan, so good old fashion chicken broth helps a bunch too (my doctor always says to have chicken matzah ball soup ). In a previous thread in here somewhere, someone mentioned a neti pot for congestion, though I have no idea what that is ... but it sounded like they work!

ETA: Here's some info on neti pots.

I got super sick with my 2nd and was soooo miserable. What helped:

-- pumping the vitamin C chewable tablets
-- zinc lozenges
-- elderberry syrup
-- teaspoon of honey for sore throat
-- putting my head under a towel and over a steamy bowl of water to relieve sinus pressure
-- lots of traditional medicinals nighttime cold care tea and chamomile tincture

It was awful, but it was over within a week. Try to rest!!!

One word of warning on the chugging of OJ - from what I've read and had confirmed by a pal who saw a naturopathic doc - there is so much (natural) sugar in OJ that it actually depresses your immune system for up to 5-6 hours after drinking it.

Best to get your Vitamin C in another form when sick, in my experience. I have OJ on a regular basis, but avoid it when I'm sick. Just my two cents!

I agree w all above. I always enjoy sitting in a steamy bathroom to clear up my head.

Totally makes sense, though I had no idea. The things you learn ...

If you have congestion, a Neti pot will work wonders.

One of the best inventions ever, imo.

Vicks vapo-rub! I like the baby version for myself as well as dd. It's great on you or on the tray ontop of a vaporizer. Plus I saw a commercial for a Euculyptus vapor product that goes at the bottom of your shower & is released in the steam...haven't tried it yet.

I had a cold a couple weeks ago. I got the Riccola cough drops, saline nasal spray, euctalyptus EO, a humidifier and gallons of hot water with honey and lemon. I don't want to scare you, but...My dad's GF (a nicu nurse) told me that it takes a lot longer to get over a cold when your pg and so far I have to say that she is right. By now I would usually only have a cough late at night, but I'm coughing all day and still a bit congested. Good luck and get a lot of rest too!
