Help me figure out when I ovulated. have chart and ultrasound

So, I'm pregnant! I was pregnant last month too, but miscarried at 5 weeks. I went in to see a miscarriage specialist yesterday (since that was m/c #5) and he did an ultrasound, and now I'm confused on my dates.

According to my chart , I should be 6 weeks today (Tuesday). But the ultrasound tech said the embryo was 6 weeks, 6 days yesterday, so 7 weeks today--exactly one week further than what I thought.

I was under the impression that these things were only accurate to within a week, either way, and that's with an early ultrasound such as this. (I think the later ones they do around 20 weeks are only accurate to within 2 weeks plus or minus). But the tech and Dr. Branch (the m/c specialist) both seemed certain that the fancy technology they have would tell them the exact age of the embryo.

According the the u/s calculations, I would have ovulated on Tuesday, September 27th, or cycle day 16. I'm thinking it's possible I O'd on Thursday, the 29th, and got pregnant from sex the Sunday before, but that's not likely at all, considering my cf was sticky on Sunday. (The day after is a ? because I couldn't tell the difference between cf and semen). But my temp went back down on Sunday. Of course, my temps went back down after I was pregnant for sure too, so I guess that's not such an accurate measure.

Anyway, it's hard to tell, but I'm still thinking my chart is right and I didn't O till Oct. 4th, and the u/s is just not perfectly accurate. What do you all think?

I know it's only a week's difference and the baby will come whenever it's ready, but I was excited to know the exact O date since I was charting! Unfortunately, my temps may not be very accurate towards the end, because, although I always temped at the same time, the amount of sleep I was getting varied greatly.

The other question I have is, when can you see a heartbeat on ultrasound? I was under the impression you could see it at 5 weeks, so no matter what I'd be able to see it, but someone else told me they thought it wasn't till after 6 weeks. I did see a hearbeat, so that might make a difference.

TIA!

Ultrasounds are accurate +/-7 days, as you thought . . . so I'd go by what you see on your chart. Trust your body and your knowledge . . . you know better than the docs when you got pregnant. And the heartbeat starts sometime around 6 weeks, give or take. So you could have been 5 weeks, 6 days yesterday and still see that amazing little heart beating.

And Congratulations!!! What wonderful news. Here's wishing you sticky vibes, and a happy and healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Hi, and congrats on your pregnancy. I know it's been a couple weeks since you asked this question, but I thought I'd add my 2cents anyways.

Newer u/s equipment can be a lot more accurate in dating, especially in early pregnancy. So how accurate the u/s would have been would depend on how new the machine was. Older machines can be out by a week, the newer ones are usually within a few days. The dating measurements are based on how many mm (millimeters,) the embryo is measuring for their crown to rump length (crl) which is why the newer machines that can see things clearer are more accurate.

The heart typically starts beating at 24 to 26 dpo, so at a 5wk u/s it would be impossible to see a h/b. At a 6wk u/s sometimes you can see the heart & sometimes not since in the early stages it beats slower and can be harder to detect. With my daughter we saw her heart at a 6wk 4 day u/s and she measured within 1 day of my O date.

Congrats & I hope you have a healthy 9 months.

eta: I looked at your chart and I think you likely did O cd18. Cd 22 & 23 temps are not being used in the calculations, and I think if they were included you would've had a CL drawn sooner. It also makes it more likely that your bfp was 14dpo since 9dpo is pretty early to get a bfp - although it's possible. Looking at your chart I'd trust the u/s dating within a couple days. Cd 18 O'ing would make the u/s right within a day or two, & that fits more with your chart I think.
