I was talking with one of my classmates today who happens to be an EMT. He has delivered several babies and his biggest complaint is that the women chose not to get any prenatal care, or even just take care of themselves during pregnancy and then they wait until it's almost too late to get to the hospital to call the EMT. It frustrates him that people would be so careless with such a precious thing.

However, he actually is supportive of intentional u/c and choosing a MW over an OB because most people don't choose to have the baby at home alone (or with a MW) b/c they 'don't feel like' getting prenatal care. I found it interesting that a medical professional was supportive of families making alternative choices and admitting that prenatal care does not necessarily mean "do what your OB tells you"
