Throbbing calves??

My calves have been throbbing like crazy for the last few days. To go along with that, the sides of my butt cheeks (sorry, I don't know the official muscle name : ) are soooo sore. Both the calves and the butt just feel like they've had a serious workout, and need a stretch -- although the stretching doesn't relieve it.

Does anyone else have this? Is is just a simple case of needing more fluids, you think?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

The butt pain might be sciatica, unfortunately that can start very early in pregnancy, as I know from experience. wah!

There are some good stretches for sciatica, and a very good massage therapist can also relieve it. Maybe a good pregnancy yoga DVD?

does it shoot down your butt at all? Definitely could be sciatica. I second the prenatal yoga and maybe a chiro/massage/PT. Increase the water intake too. Are your calves cramping or sore?

Perhaps the relaxin is setting in early?
Do you work out at all?
Mine have been sore lately but it is attributed to kickboxing.

With the area you are describing I doubt that it is sciatica. Unless its really deep in side your glute.

IT's true, if your butt just feels sore like a workout-sore, that's different. But you don't have to have it shooting down your leg or anything to have sciatica. Mine is always just way deep INTO my butt, right where the nerve passes through the pelvis. It's way in there.

In fact if the pain in your butt only goes to your knee its called piriformis syndrome and is ealy "fixable" by a glute massage! I had it when I was in massage school and I was so busy I didn't think to get it worked on. I suffered for months and one night we worked on the glutes and my teacher fiddled with some stretches and magicly it was gone!

Thanks, mamas! I may try some pregnancy yoga. (& a massage! )

Yah, I had wicked sciatica with my 1st one, but it was always just on one side (my whole leg would buckle on me). But this doesn't really feel like that (no shooting pains). Instead, it feels like I worked out really hard, and the muscles (in my butt and thighs) are tender (they even burn a little, if that makes sense?). And the calves constantly feel like they're on the verge of cramping. I wasn't sure if maybe it was something I could improve with my diet, maybe I was lacking something?

But either way, I'm ALL for trying the yoga and massage. Thanks sooo much for your advice!
