Anyone have kidney stones during pregnancy???

I have no idea what is going on but about a wk ago I woke in the middle of the night and couldnt pee. It was very odd and I had to bear down to finally pee. This is totally abnormal since I can barely make it to the bathroom when I have to pee Fast fast forward to the night before last. Same thing happened but it took me about ten minute of walking around and then finally peeing out in spurts. I called my DR yesterday and she said I could come in and she would see if I had an infection. Now keep in mind that this only happens after sleeping. She said it may be swelling of the organs. I told her if it happened again I would come in. Last night I woke at 2.00 dying to pee and unable to. It took me an hr to finally pee and Im embarrased to say that was standing up and peeing onto a towel. This was like contractions and labor. I could feel the urine coming down but it was like the opening was closed. Im scared that it put the baby in distress because my stomach was rock hard. Needless to say Im going in today but wonder if anyone has ever had this happen and what was it. Once almost 18yrs ago I had a kidney stone while pregnant with my first and am wondering of the chance of that being it. The weird thing is afterwards there is no burning or anything just total relief.

Sorry if too much info and long,
Melissa

Hmmm...as someone who has had kidney stones twice, a bladder infection, and a UTI, this sounds more like bladder or urinary tract to me. For me, the kidney stones always began with dull, achey pain in my lower back on one side (this is the "classic" kidney stone symptom). I peed frequently, but didn't have that inability to pee that's associated with urinary tract or bladder problems. I would definitely get it checked it out. If is an infection, especially a bladder infection, you'll need to treat it ASAP. I've had a lot of weird peeing issues lately--going 4 or 5 times in a short span of time, feeling like I have to go when I don't--but it turned out to be nothing. Just the way my uterus is growing and pressing on my bladder right now.

P.S. One of my midwives was telling me about a client of hers who had kidney stones WHILE she was in labor. She had to transfer to the hospital. That just sounds...horrific.

Amanda,
Hopefully you are right. I am going to get checked out as soon as I get the kids off to school. The weird thing is absolutely no pain except how bad it hurts when I had to pee and couldnt but afterward no burning or anything.

Hi everyone!
Back from the doctor. My urine checked out fine so my midwife thinks I could be having some sort of spasms that are contracting at night and she thinks that it may be related to caffeine and/or citric acid. I am officially off caffeine including caffeine free products and basically anything carbonated. I am also not to drink orange juice, tomato juice, lemonade or anything that has that sour twang. Oow Im allowed grape juice, apple juice, milk and of course lots of water. I stopped at the store on the way home and picke up some gatorade, bottled wated, and some splash drink mix. Im so depressed I do love carbonated beverages along with my coffee(1 cup) I am soo in withdrawal but anything would have to be better than being unable to pee.

She also said that they could give me something for it but they were all class three drugs so not recommended. I guess we will see.

Thanks for the support.

Wow Mel,
I'm glad that there is some sort of answer! I hope that works for you...it seemed trivial at the time but I wanted to mention that at night only I have this outrageous urge to pee, even right after going. I was sure that I had a UTI the first time it happened, but felt better in the morning. It happens each night. Not like after dinner, but when I go to bed I feel like I need to get up 20 times. I've learned to ignore it and just go to sleep. Somehow this works!

Aww, Mama, I'm so sorry they couldn't drink more!! Those symptoms sound so painful and frustrating I hope that you start to feel better soon

Aww, sorry to hear that Mel. Glad to hear it's not kidney stones though, just like Amanda my symptoms started in my lower back. Kidney stones were worse for me than labor and especially horrible when I was 28 weeks pg.

Hope you're feeling better already!
