Dairy isn't necessarily as great a source of calcium as one might think. However, it is a very convenient -- and IMHO a very yummy -- source, so allergies and ethical concerns aside, it isn't a bad thing to include in your diet. I've been having a little extra milk/cheese/yogourt lately, but I don't have any problems with dairy. If you do, good nondairy sources of calcium are things like leafy greens, tofu, seafood (especially sardines) etc.

Thanks so much ~pi. That helps a lot. I have so much to learn about all this that any bit of advice or help is SO appreciated.

if you are concerned about getting enough calcium, that would be a good reason to dump the caffeine. caffeine and iron inhibit calcium absorption.

I drink one or two cups of weak coffee every day...though with mypast pregnancies, I've wanted to barf at the sight of it by a few weeks in ...we'll see. It's kind of a coping with the morning thing for me....getting 3 little kids dressed, nursed, fed, pottied, etc....I have a hard time not being kind of stressed. For some reason sipping on a hot coffee makes me feel calm

With all of my pregnancies I have continued to have about one caffenated diet soda a day (caffine and aspertame -- bad, I know but it's one vice I can't seem to give up -- the diet soda, not the caffine really.) My one craving is soda out of a fountain and few places have any without caffine. I can't switch to regular soda cause it's too sweet.

My sil cut out caffine totally when she was pregnant and the first time she had it after the baby was born she had a screaming baby all night. She couldn't figure out what her problem was and when I asked her if she had eaten or drank anything out of the norm it was like a lightbulb literally went on over her head.

I have decided to stop caffeine as I don't really "need" it anyway. I actually can do with out any coffee for the whole day. I just like a cup in the morning as part of my ritual I guess. Fix breakfast, pour coffee and check e-mail. Looks like herbal tea can take it's place nicely!
