Getting insurance to cover a homebirth

Thanks for the link, that was an interesting discussion.

I contacted the birthing center I want to use and asked them which insurance companies cover their services. As it is now open enrollment, we would have some choices to make. . . it turns out the company I have actually does pay for their services.

That's a sorta back-door way to find out how to approach it, but obv. wouldn't work the same way for homebirths.

We are switching our insurance because BCBS Oklahoma is notorious for mot reimbursing for homebirth. Dh has a health fair at work Monday so I'll have lots of plans to look over next week!

We are planning a homebirth with a lay midwife and will pay 2,200 out of pocket. This is fine with me, pretty cheap I think, but considering we pay 300 a month for insurance we SHOULD get reimbursed, ya know? Blah, the whole thing makes me .

Both my dh and I are self employed....we pay over $800 a month for health insurance ALONE.....for our family of four.

Our insurance does cover hb, chiro, acupuncture and nat. path dr. only after out deductible....

Better than having Kaiser.....I would choose for no insurance before having Kaiser....
