Jet Dry

We're getting a dishwasher!!! I'm soooooo excited, I even dreamed about using it! It'll be delivered tomorrow and installed on Wednesday!

It's a Bosch and has a little space for using Jet Dry - what is that? Do you have to use it, or is it just reccommended? What's in it? Can you substitute a more natural product? What would that more natural product be?

I have heard you can use vinegar instead of jetdry. on the new dishwasher.

Vinegar might work, depending on how hard your water is.

Vinegar usually works the same, but I don't use anything and my dishes are fine.

I ruined my dishwasher when it was new was using vinigar in it. It etched the plastic up in it so it know stains very easily.

I use Jet Dry as it makes the dishes rinse off better and they dry quicker. :

Congrats on the dishwasher, they are wonderful appliances to have

Vinegar never really worked for us. I use Earth Friendly Wave Jet Rinse Aid and it seems to do a pretty good job.

Enjoy your dishwasher! I can't imagine living without mine!

Jet Dry is just another "you don't really have to have this" product that can make a difference, but we've never bought it.

I have to wonder, if it changes how quickly water evaporates from the surface of the dishes... is it adding something to the surface of the dishes?

I don't use any 'rinse aid' because I don't need any. Try your dishwasher out first and if you have lots of spots, try different detergents, if that doesn't work try the "heat dry" option, and if that doesn't work then maybe try a jet dry alternative (I'm assuming it's a sort of water softener?). Or you could hand dry the clear dishes/glasses with tea towels.

kamilla626-I've wondered the same thing, that's why I'm glad I don't need it!

I have a Bosch dishwasher. It calls for Jet Dry because it doesn't have a separate heating unit to dry to dishes. The stainless steel walls absorb the heat from the hot water and that is what dries the dishes. So, when you use Jet Dry, it helps the water to bead and sheet off the dishes, thus making drying more efficient.

There is a difference when the Jet Dry is not used.
