prefolds and toddlers?

I've been thinking about using prefolds for my ds. I am currently using mostly fitteds and various covers. I am getting sick of fitteds that stop fitting after one month or ones that are just not absorbant enough. I also cannot stand how hard some of them are to clean up after a poop, especially around the legs.
So would prefolds be any easier? I've never gotten the hang of the different folds and cannot seem to get them tight enough around the legs. Ds won't hold still to let me practice either.
How well would a trifolded prefold hold in poop?
Also, would you say a prefold is as absorbant as most fitteds?

Thanks

I find that I am using prefolds more than ever now with my soon-to-be 2 year-old. Premiums fit her well, and we usually throw in a doubler and snappi them closed. They seem very trim, and fit well under all of her wool covers (knit, jersey and interlock) as well as under a BUmmi wrap. We have never had any poo issues and they come very clean. Sometimes Paige gets wiggly, and many times for outings I still use fitteds (we still love those too!) But I guess what I am trying to say is that prefolds work great for toddlers, and they are very cost-effective!

Well, we don't trifold, we pin, but I have no more issues with poo and prefolds than I do with fitteds. And IMO, my prefolds absorb more than some of my fitteds. There are so many different types of prefolds too, but for me I like the Indians for absorbancy. Plus I love that they clean up so easily in the wash and dry quick. We recently sold off all our fitteds in favor of prefolds and FBs and I couldn't be happier.

I trifold and poop almost always gets on the covers. I just make sure I have lots of covers. 8 seems to be a good number for both my 7 week old and my 3 year old. I love the absorbancy of prefolds folded in thirds.

I use prefolds mostly at home. I usually pin them or snappi them. I try and get it snug in the waist and then once it is pinned/snappied, I roll the legs in to make them snug. I really do think prefolds are more absorbent than most fitteds. Obvioulsy hemp and dipes for heavy wetters will absorb more but i find that for my heavy wetter dd prefold work great at home. PLus they are SO easy toget clean after poop. Like you, I HATE getting poop off fitteds...the elastic in the legs really holds on to it. LOL.

Lol, I answered one of my own questions. I've got one prefold and I thought I would try it out trifolded in a Bummi SWW. Ds picked that one to poop in and it smooshed out the sides- sorry if tmi.
I will have to give that snappi another go.

I snappi. I use the jelly roll! It works great!! Do you have the new style snappi or the old style? I find the new style snappi really hard to use!

I just started cloth diapering my almost 3y/o we got our order of prefolds today and I washed them up slpped one on him and he pooped no smooshing or anything and the poop just rolled right off into the potty but this is what I do I lay the prefold flat on the floor and then DS lays on it then I fold the two front corners together and lift it between his legs then I grab the snappi and hook the sides then the middle slap on the pro wrap and he is done took me less than a minute my first time.

I find with my 2yo DS I need to get that poopy dipe changed ASAP or we end up with a mess regardless what kind of dipe he's wearing (He has peanut buttery poops, he's really active, plus he's gotten into putting his hands in it). Not so easy sometimes since DS has a tendency to resist changes. He yells, "Diaper No!" and takes off running. But anyway, prefolds are working fine for us. both trifolded and snappied. gotta go, he's saying "please nurse" and i'm holding the baby.

It depends on what cover I use weather I fold and snappi or just trifold. I trifold in Bummis, but Snappi in a side snapping cover. Either way, we usually don't have problems with poop leaking. Once in awhile, if we have a really runny one, it'll come out the sides no matter what I do. A good cover keeps it all contained at least.

Maybe try the jellyroll to hold in the poo, I hear that is suposed to help. I'm going to try it and see if it helps.
