Anyone else obsessed with snap placement?!

I'll bet I'm the only mom on earth who lays awake at night thinking about snap placement! I'm obsessed with how to get as much wear as possible out of the diapers I'm making for my fast-growing baby (he was 11 lbs 8 oz at birth & now weighs 16 lbs at just shy of 2 months!). He is short waisted & wide & I prefer dipes with a low rise, so I devised the snap placement pictured below. Right now he wears them snapped as pictured in the 3rd photo, but using the higher row of snaps will increase the waist size &/or the rise. Hopefully this is helpful to someone! I would love to see how others have placed the snaps on their diapers.

Two rows of snaps-- one row facing inside & one facing outside:

Front of diaper folded down so that second row of snaps are facing outside (lowering the rise):

Snapped on smallest setting on low rise (could add more snaps for a wider but short baby):

Front folded up & snapped on smallest setting on top row of snaps:

Snapped on widest setting on top row of snaps:

Yup--totally with you on the laying in bed & thinking of snap placement thing. Recently, I tried to sort out how to modify the new ottobre diaper for front snapping. I just couldn't justify aplix w/ my new snap press on hand. I'm still not sure I've got it down. I like your fold down system.

It's a modified idea from a dipe I saw on line. I cannot stnd sewing aplix & ditto on the need to justify snap press! LOL! Glad I'm not alone.

Deffinately not the only one! It's amazing how much you can obsess about each part of the diaper

Just last night my dh asked me if I dream about making diapers!!! Yes, I too, think long and hard about snap placement. I put one of those suckers on wrong before and it wasn't pretty!!! But you know the funny thing is I LOVE PREFOLDS!!! So for those I don't need all of my beautiful polyresin snaps and my to-die-for snap press. I don't need elastic even. How sad is that!!! So my other venture is making fleece covers. This way I can still pour out my diaper making obssession and still use my prefolds.

I haven't thought about snap placement as much yet, simply because the snap press is not yet ready (just gave an industrial size set of dies to my mom yesterday to give to my dad so he can drill holes in the arbor press... and the standard size dies should be here sometime this week... still need to order SNAPS! ).

But I do lie awake at night thinking about pattern design and how to put the diaper together, etc. One night, a nursing session got me awake enough to start thinking diapers, and I was up for an hour and a half because my brain wouldn't turn off!!!!

Oh ladies. You're all sick puppies.

I don't lay awake at night thinking about diapers. I've got my obsession under control.

Instead, I soothe myself to sleep by picturing the one perfect fleece wrap. Or maybe about how to tweak the LTK ribby to make it fit better. Or maybe how I could change my pattern a bit to make prefitted fit a wider range of sizes. or maybe...

Yeah, whatever. I'm TOTALLY under control.

I spent so much time thinking about how to make the best diaper. I was afraid to start sewing until I figured out the "perfect" system. Finally, I just jumped in.

First of all, I thought my 10 lb 12 oz-at-birth-baby was big!

Secondly- that's a cute diaper! You did a great job!

Thirdly- I USED to be obsessed with snap placement, even laying awake at night worrying about it; UNTIL, I realized that I was going crazy and didn't like the diapers I was making, so I went back to prefolds/prefitteds and just use a snappi! (And sold the snap press!).

One question- do all the snap parts touch your baby's skin, or is there some kind of lay-in soaker covering them up? When I was doing snaps, I was always trying to figure out a good way to do a multi-rise diaper without the snap parts bothering the baby.

There's a quick dry soaker pad that covers the lower row of snaps-- probably won't cover the top row, but the snap parts are very smooth on the cap side.

I put SNAPS on my PREFOLDS! I snaps! I spend WAY too much time thinking about them!

"Hi, my name is Micki and I'm obsessed with making diapers."

Count me in too! I've had dreams about them, I lie around trying to figure out snap placement and what kind of adjustments I should make.

michellerene, that's an awesome looking diaper! I may have to borrow your snapping methods for my next batch of dipes. What pattern did you use, or is it your own?
