interior paint?

Thread Starter
We are planning to re-paint inside our house, and want to do it as non toxic as possible. I've read that traditional interior paints off gas for years, not to mention that it is winter, so it will not be as possible to air out the house after the painting is done. Does anyone have any knowledge to share about safer paint choices? Thanks!

What you want to look for are low to no VOC (volatile organic compound) paints. There are "mainstream" brands like Benjamin Moore's Ecospec that are low VOC. AFM Safecoat makes nontoxic, low to no VOC paints called Healthy Hues. Here's a link to a green home store that carries nontoxic/non VOC paints; I'm not sure if they do mail order but you could at least get the names of the various brands available.

We used Benjamin Moore's Ecospec and were very pleased with the results. Ventilation while painting is also key.

Sherwin Williams also has a low VOC paint that we use. I react to "normal" paint smells but have never had a problem with this one! It is expensive but worth it!

Frazee makes one too. All of the brands I have read about get good reviews. You do have fewer color choices. Basically, you get the light to medium colors, and not the darks. At least that is the case with those I have looked into.
