how to fix holes in fleece?

How would you fix this...
my dog got into the pail one day and chewed up my red fuzzi bunz. There's just some holes in the fleece, nothing too bad, but they are holes, not flaps that I can sew down.

Should I sew a piece of scrap fleece over it or just darn it? What would you do? They are penny/dime sized holes.

I'd cut a scrap piece just a little bigger than the hole and zigzag around it. Darning might let poop through a little.
