Cotton Sheets

I am just curious - I have a ton of sheets laying around that I was thinking about getting rid of. Can I use them for any part of a cloth diaper successfully? They are a woven material so there is no stretch in them. They are the ones that you would get at Walmart or Target.

As long as they're cotton, go for it!!

I just used up an old fitted king-sized sheet in some diaper-making. Well, actually I still have some left -- those are HUGE sheets!! So far I've just made pocket-stuffers and internal soaker pads out of the sheeting but they could be used in any part. It will take quite a few layers usually because sheets are often made out of quite thin material, but that's the only alteration of sorts. I looking around the house to see what I can recycle to use in diapers! I mean, I still love ordering and buying other material, but I love knowing that I'm doing the planet well in a doubly good way by recycling material and then reusing cloth diapers!

I jsut made 12 dozen diapers out of sheets but they were all flannel. If it was a woven sheet I would add twice as many layers.

but be sure they are 100% cotton. There should be a tag on the fitted at least, usually near the corner, that tells its make up.

Well ALL of the sheets ended up being 50% cotton/ 50% polyester. So I'm assuming I can't use those. Right?

I did find two sets of twin flannels and a set of queen flannels that were 100% cotton that I can use since we haven't used the sheets in years.

definately skip out on the 50/50 cotton poly blend. It's not worth it.

But the flannel sounds really promising! I use old towels for inserts here. We bought several at the thrift shop to use for our home water birth so we didn't get our nice ones icky and after the birth, they got turned into inserts! I hear that a lot of people get diaper rocks with them (little hard balls in the inserts) but so far, no rocks have appeared. They work great! It's so cool to use 'found' fabric in diapers!
