Im stuffy :(

I just needed to whine for a minute. I think that my girls colds finally caught up with me. YEAH! I have a stuffy nose and my throat is a little sore. Im keeping my fingers crossed that I dont get the full blown nasty throat virus they had, but with my luck it will be even worse. Atleast hubby let me sleep in today, but of course tomorrow is school and getting up early, and I have a million things to do. I have a handful of craft projects I need to get done asap, and my house is in shambles and DD's 2nd b-day party is on Saturday and I still have cleaning/planning/shopping to do.....WAHHH!
I hope upon hope it doesnt get too bad and the I dont get the nasty mucus yuck like I did with my last pregnancy. I went from no morning sickness to pucking atleast once or twice a day from gagging on the oodles of gunk that wouldnt go away.

Any remedies? Fast cold busters? Suggestions?
Thanks for letting me vent.

Kathryn,

Start taking extra vitamin C, some fresh garlic clove, about 3, if you can stomach it. Also, the homeopathic remedy mercurius vivicus (sp?) is great for sore throats.

Get well soon.

Oh man, I've had super nasty thick mucous for over a month now. I have to ever so gently clear my throat whithout coughing, to keep from gagging. My throat has also been super sore, esp in the mornings. I never has this during my 1st pg.

My boys fell ill with the ears, nose and throat thing, too, and then I caught it. It was AWFUL. Lasted for about 10 days. It never made it into my lungs, I just had incredible sinus pressure and congestion.

What helped:

- Emergen-C and Airborne when my energy was low
- Traditional Medicinals Cold Care tea
- Liberal use of the neti pot
- Steamy showers
- Soups and stews
- Lots of sleep

Good luck--pregnancy colds are the worst!!!

Oh mama I feel your pain, I'm in the same boat but not bday party, the preschool thanksgiving party I am chairing! I usually get over cold in a day or two. This lasted all week. I now feel pressure on my nose but I am blowing the mucas yuck out and I'm getting better.

I had the vaporizer going for a bunch of nights, long steamy showers, plus everything pp had listed.

Try a neti pot. I LOVE mine and use it all the time especially when it gets stuffy.

What is a neti pot? Is there a link where I could see one online? What do they do exactly?

I use the sinucleanse pot. It comes with some of the solution packets but you can make your own solution, too.

So the water just pours in one nostril and comes out the other? What if you accidentally inhale? (I'm a freak of nature who can't put my face underwater because I have this reflex to inhale at such times.)

... but I also have chronic post-nasal drip and nose and throat irritation.

I can't go under water without breathing in either, so we're freaks together! The only time I had a problem was at first when I wasn't used to it and didn't put my head in the right position. I haven't had a problems since I learned how to tilt my head correctly.

Thanks for asking, yes Im actually feeling better. What seemed to work best was sleeping with a warm mist vaporizer next to the bed and a warm/cold damp rag over my sinuses. The moisture helped relieve the stuffyness thankfully. I also just took some tylenol (once maybe twice a day) and made sure to keep my throat moist. Of course the night I went to my dr I was feeling better, but did ask him what I could take....surprisingly he said tylenol cold/flu was fine to take. I was shocked....luckily I was feeling better and didnt have to take anything. Just thought it was interesting. I also do tend to trust him since the pratice is infertility and specializing in high risk pregnancies (im high risk)....sooo thought I would pass it along! I also know sudafed and robutissin dm is safe as well....something else but I cant recall, when I find my baby bag I will look for the list he gave me. Hope everyone else has a cold free winter!

My husband just reminded me when I was pregnant with my daughter, I had a terrible cold and poured boiling water in a pot, but a clump of Vicks in it, and hung over it with a towel. It helped....

And I have taken Tylenol products, I just can't remember which ones. With my last pregnancy, I had recurrent sinus infections and I ended using Grapefruit seed extract in a nasel spray form that helped...

Feeling sick here too! DH and DD were sick last week and now it's my turn. I feel a ton of mucus in my chest. I'm going to use a vaporizor tonight and a steam(head over a sink of hot water) before bed. Just feeling miserable and I hope I can kick this cold quickly.
