so, i started reading this Raising your Spirited child book, and man it describes my dd to a tee. she is such a crazy little thing, and i am truly struggling to practice gd with her. do you think this book is worth the reading?

Yes! That book saved my life! Ok well maybe that's stretching it but it felt like it made that big a difference. Just changing the language I was using to describe (and think of) her helped. She wasn't "aggressive" anymore - she was SPIRITED. Much easier to be patient with spirit than aggression.

Love that book. If you ever get a chance to go to one of her workshops I highly recommend it. I did a short evening session and its was really superb!

Very worth it!!

Helps you reframe your child's quirks from negative to positive--instead of being bullheaded or stubborn, you can chose to see how focused and determined your child is. And how that will serve him/her later in life.

She does a wonderful job conveying how important it is to keep our kids' innate personalities intact--how to not break their spirits. And also allows how damn hard it can be along the way.

Not sure if it was that book, or not....but thinking about how Robin Williams' mother must have felt during the toddler years makes me feel lots better.

Also good stuff about introverts and extroverts.

You will likely see how spirited you and/or your partner is, too.

I LOVE that book!!! I just started reading it for the third time -- 4 yo dd is going through a rough streak right now.

There's also a Raising Your Spirited Child workbook, which dh and I have used when talking it through together.

Wonderful resource!

"Raising Your Spirited Child" and "How to Talk so Kids will Listen, How to Listen so Kids will Talk" are my favorite GD communication tools books.
