Ok, I know birth plans have been discussed before and I did a search, but I didn't find anything too helpful. Plus, I wanted to have someone take a look at it before I show it to the midwive on Wed. Since I am using a birth center a lot of the usuals for a hospital birth don't apply.
Labor
-I would like gentle direction as to different positions to try to help ease the pain of labor.
-I would prefer as few internal exams as possible.
-I want to choose the position and place in which I push, but would appreciate direction on different positions.
-I do not want to be directed or coached to push. I want to wait until I feel the desire to push.
After Birth
-Baby is to be placed on my stomach directly after birth.
-Do not clamp or cut the cord until the placenta has been delivered.
-Do not pull on the placenta or use fundal pressure unless there is a specific reason, if so then discuss it with me first.
-Husband is to cut the cord once placenta has been delivered.
-All tests to be done while I hold the baby or wait until we have had time to bond.
-No Vitamin K shot. If the midwife feels the Vitamin K is necessary then we will discuss it and if I agree, then oral Vitamin K can be administered.
-No Hepatitis B shot.
-No Eye Ointment.
-No Heal Pricks or Blood taken until 3-day check up.
-PKU to be done at 3-day check up or at 1-week appointment at pediatrician’s office, not at birth.
-If baby is a boy, NO circumcision or retraction of the foreskin.
-Babies tongue to be checked to see if it is tongue tied, if so then tongue to be clipped before we leave the birth center.
Things the BC already has in place:
-Food and drinks allowed during labor
-They don't do routin IVs
-Allowed to walk, move, try different possitions, etc.
-Every Birth room was a tub for water labor/birth.
-I don't think they circ, but one MW did ask if it was a boy did I want him circ and I told her absolutly not, but I thought I would add that in there just in case.
-They are also perfectly fine with not doing the PKU (at birth), Vit K, HepB and eye drops.
Did I miss anything????
I am also curious if they do blood tests at birth, if so what do they normally test for other than the PKU? If it is blood type, then that can wait (both DH and I are O+). But are there tests they do that are important within the first few days of life?
