Soon, so soon!!

Well... looks like we'll be having our baby very soon.

Went in for an ultrasound today, Hannah (the baby) is very healthy, everything looks great. She scores 8/8 which is very good news.

Because I am 6 days overdue, and I have a not so hot medical history (prior case severe pree BP 217/110) and a heart thing that seems to be really bothering me lately (severe chest pain attacks due to a valve regurge) we have decided to opt for an induction. I had a heart thing 2 days ago that hurt really bad and lasted about 4-5 minutes, with pain shooting down my arm and back. Sometimes when I get them, I can barely breathe. Also, I have these little attacks waking me in the middle of the night, which can be even scarier. The longer the pregnancy has been going on, the more severe and frequent these episodes are, and it has been making me quite nervous. I tried to stay calm about it, pretend it's not a big deal, but I've been secretly scared.

So with all of this taken into consideration, I don't want to take any chances.

This afternoon I was given a dose of the prostaglandin gel, which has triggered some very nasty cramping, and contrax that are about 10 minutes apart that last for about 30 seconds. Hopefully, this is stage one labor and it won't fizzle out. If this doesn't work, he may try another dose of gel, but if my cervix is ripe, he will try breaking my water tomorrow afternoon. My doula said she was surprised, that most Dr's would just go in with oxytocin instead, she was quite excited that he was going to try other means to get the ball rolling instead of resorting to drugs. If that doesn't work, then I would face a pitocin drip (which I don't really want, but if it comes to that, I realize that this was my choice.)

Oof, I'm having a contrax, so I'm gonna go now. Just crossing my fingers that these don't fizzle out!

Oh mama! Sorry to hear about your heart troubles - it definitely sounds like you are making the right decision to protect your health and your babe's.

Hope your induction is as comfortable as possible and that you have an easy and wonderful birth!! Update us when you can!

Good, good, good luck, Mrs Moe! I don't remember you ever saying anything about your little "heart attacks" . I don't blame you at all for going for it.

I'll be thinking about you tonight pulling for your cervix. No pit for you!

Again, good luck!

I'm hoping you were completely ready and just needed a little nudge in the right direction. Come on baby Hannah!

Best wishes for a gentle birth (and no pit).

Good luck! The Cervadil was enough to send me into full blown labor with my son. I hope it works for you as well!

It really sounds like you're making the best decision possible for you and your little girl, and you have a great support team! Hopefully, those contractions will keep going. We'll be thinking good thoughts in your direction tonight.

Thanks everyone for all the postive thoughts!

I'm having "sharp/stabby" contrax every 5-7 minutes, but they only last about 30 seconds. This is good I think, because they were like period cramps, then I had contrax every 20 minutes, 15 minutes, then 10, and so on. This hopefully means the gel may just as well trigger labor. I spoke with my sister in law tonight, and she said the gel triggered her labor as well. She has crampy pains like me until the middle of the night when her water broke and put her into full blown labor.

I called my doula, she and I agree it's not active labor yet, but we are assuming that my cervix is effacing (it was only at 30% this morning.)

Thanks again for all of the positive vibes!

I hope you have a wonderful birth. Maybe the Beaver Moon will have some influence. I will be praying that you and the baby are both healthy. Good luck!

This is Amanda's husband. Thought I'd update you guys on what's happening. Looks like Hannah will be joining us soon. Contractions are becoming more intense and painful and are now about 3-5 minutes apart. THey're lasting anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute and a half. THe doula is on her way and then we will decide from there.

GOt to go. Back massage duty is calling

Hope to be posting some pictures soon.
