Talk to me about bleach.

I don't use bleach. I don't have any concrete reasons why not, but it just feels harmful to me. My mother seems to think that sending my ds to school in socks that are not blinding white is some kind of child abuse. I think pouring damaging things down my drain and into the water system just to I can have white socks is selfish and I'm not going to do it.

So who can tell me what the environmental impact of using bleach is? Am I over reacting?

Bleach gives me a terrible headache.

I have nice white white's all with oxygen bleach and Calgon

I don't use bleach either. I just don't think that it's nessecary. My mom can't beleive that I don't use it. I hate the smell, and I don't like to buy anything with bleach in it. Oxygen Bleach works just as well.

we use that oxygen stuff too and it is great. it works wonderfully on my dh's work shirts, i soaked one after he got some food on it (check the label) and it was "blinding white"-enough for his work to be happy about it.
sorry your mom is finicky about it-ugh..there are*so* many more important things in life!

I'll be watching this thread. I'm an in-home childcare provider and by regs I have to use bleach to sanitize and it makes me insane. It feels so wrong yet I dont' have the concrete proof I need. I'm feeling so wasteful with all the paper towels and baby wipes used and then I have to go and use bleach on my entire home. It gives me a headache and I just feel like it's hurting us all.

I hate using bleach but I haven't found anything else. What is oxygen bleach? Oxyclean? Also, I have this black mildew that grows in my shower (even though I clean it once a week). How do you kill that??

for the daycare provider, our daughter's preschool just got approved to use this thyme-smelling product from melaleuca instead of bleach. still kills germs but no yucky smell. i like the smell of thyme! i don't sell melaleuca but there's probably someone near you who does.
