Letters to Elmo

How many of us wrote letters to PBS after reading Meeshi Mama's thread about Elmo pushing bottles? I have not gotten a response, and I was wondering if enough of us wrote to make an impression. One would think that PBS, since it relies on financial support from viewers, would be a little more attentive to the complaints of its viewing audience! If you are reading this thread and are saying, "Huh? Letters to Elmo?" please find the thread entitled "Oh no! Even ELMO is pushing bottles!" by Meeshi Mama in the Breastfeeding Support and Advocacy forum. Somewhere in there I posted the link to PBS's e-mail form, so let's all fight!!!

writing is a good idea
it might open their eyes

most likely they don't realize how many toddlers are breastfed

since the show is aimed at toddlers and young young children, they most likely thought that it would make sense

i think the MAJORITY of the population is in the dark when it comes to extended breastfeeding, and it would be good to let them know that there are lots and lots of people that feed thier babies, toddlers breastmilk and that they would like to see it on tv

it might help open their eyes

Sleepies, I don't believe the producers of Sesame Street thought it was okay because they didn't realize toddlers nurse - Elmo said "Babies drink from bottles," so it's not just about making breastfed toddlers feel left out, it's about giving an accurate description of how babies eat.

That's a good idea LOL. I like it!

Um, also, this has been here for a day or two, and it really belongs in Activism. So I'm going to bump it and move it. Hope no one minds to much.

Thanks for your patience,
Sierra

Mamapie, it's in Support and Advocacy, and if you can't find it, just do a search by the thread's title (which I mentioned above). Come on, let's get the furry little red guy!!!!

I can't believe I missed that. I must confess to being a GIANT Sesame Street fan. I have watched it my whole life, even when I didn't have ds, but this Zithromax crap and Elmo in general are not good. Save Sesmame Street! No urban renewal at Sesame Street! Elmo is evil!

Dear Elmo,

My mommy feeds me milk from her babas. I call breasts babas. My cousin gets milk from a bottle but that is frankly not what nature intended. Elmo, I realize that some baby's mamas must give milk in bottles, but this should not be the norm, and further, your show's shameless promotion of antibiotics made by giant pharmeceutical companies irks me to no end. Z is for zero, and zebra, and zither no Zithromax. Thank you for your time, Elmo.

Sincerely,

Babypie

P.S. I like Ernie the best.

yeah I never got a reply either - that does make me mad - whenever I've written a POSITIVE letter (Mr. Rogers, Jump Start comic strip, Baby Blues comic strip) I've always gotten a thank you back...

Thanks for the update Ceili. If Mr. Rogers can show NIPPLE while explaining breastfeeding, then frickin' Sesame Street can shape up to. I'm on it, babay!!
