For those who had their membranes stripped...

What were the stats of your cervix when it was done?
How long afterward did you go into labor?
I just got back from the Dr. this morning. He stripped my membranes.
Today is my due date.
I am 80% effaced, 1cm dialated, and the baby is at station -1. (That is what I was last week too)

Thanks for the input.

Last pregnancy we tried it THREE times, starting when I was around 4cm/75% effaced/-1 station. We did it a couple more times, finally when I think I was 5cm/90% effaced/0 station - and it never worked. I went another week at least.

This pregnancy, being an eternal optimist, I opted for it again on Monday afternoon. I was 4cm/75% effaced/-1 station. Its been 72 hours and I'm not in labor.

Apparently it just doesn't work for me!

i went in 2 days ago for a stretch and sweep ( same thing im assuming).. i was 2 cm dialeted and "very soft" so i dunno exactly how effaced that is and i dont know about station either. i didn't ask but im going in for another today in a few minutes so we will see if there is any change and ill get the exact info this time. so far i havn't gone into labour but my midwife said its way more effective after the 2nd time. im also going to get a massage/cranio realignment tonight so i feel like i may not know what helped if i do end up in labour tonight. sorry i cant be of more help

I'm going to get one done on Monday: wouldn't normally, but we really want to get this baby out any day except next Thursday, and we know that when it was done when I was actually in labour before, I pretty much just stretched to full dilation.
Apparently, though, the success rate is only around the 45% mark, so it's not enormous: I was planning on mixing it with a dose of castor oil and some caulophyllum to increase the likelihood.
According to my notes, these contractions I've been having for the last month have achieved nothing other than moving my cervix anterior- I'm still about 1-2 centimetres dilated, which is par for the course for a multigravida.

update.. so im about 3 cm dialated on the outside and 1cm or so inside.. better than two days ago.. i was 2cm outside and shut tight inside.. about 60% effaced but very soft and my cervix went from being very posterior to very easily reachable and farward, so there is progress.. but i think its more to do with my body than the stretch and sweep we will see later.. it didnt make me feel as crampy this time as it did the other day. my midwife said she could come sat and do another but i think ill just leave it at that. my body can do the rest

I got my membranes stripped last week at 1cm, 50% effaced, -1 station. It helped bring on contractions for a little while, and might have helped him drop a bit but definately didn't send me into labor.

Anyway, it wasn't too uncomfortable, so I keep telling myself that it was worth it -- every little bit helps, right?

I was wondering about this myself. I had it done today at 3cm & %80. When I asked my ob about the effectiveness, she said it really had not been studied. I had it done with my first, but it did nothing. Lots of friends tell me it has 'worked for them', though.
