Toddler sewing

Aughhh! Ds has put straight pins inside the body of my Bernina in the slot where I reverse the stitch direction. I haven't sewn with it since to try to have time to figure out what to do. There is no trouble shooting section on the Bernina website. Anyone have any ideas?????????? I have sew many projects lined up I can't afford to get behind. I just had it serviced a couple of months ago.

yikes! I'm sure it won't work, but I'll throw it out: have you tried a magnet, or a thin strip of that refig. mag self sticking tape type stuff?

It's a 1001 (12 1/2 years old). The setup is VERY similar to basic model machines I've used--Bernina, Singer, etc. There is a vertical slot on the front, and an adjustable knob sticking out the front which adjusts for stitch length. The knob can be adjusted all the way up and down the slot, and to reverse you raise the knob all the way to the top of the slot.

I can't find a magnet thin enough to go into the slot. I'll have to look around.

This link is to a newer model that is very similar to my model. The knob-in-slot is right on the front, right side.

That switch connects to the lower gears which tell the feed dogs how far to make the stitches. You can shake the machine to get the pins to fall down to the bottom (provided they aren't caught in anything, but that isn't very likely) and then either take the bottom of the machine off or just leave them sitting in the bottom. If everything still moves smoothly, no clunking noises and nothing catching, then it's probably fine, but I'd sew slowly and carefully for a while until you're sure the pins aren't stuck between anything in there.

If all else fails, try a pin that's been magnetized. A lot of my pins that are kept on a magnet holder have become magnetized and will pick up a pin or two pretty easily. Hope you get it all figured out!
