Finishing edges of trainers - favorite way??

What is your favorite way to finish the edges of trainers? I thought FOE would look the best (most "toddler sporty") - especially if I dye it. But I have not liked the way it has worked for me in a couple of projects. These are my questions:

1. Where do you get your FOE? (I have several small pieces left, can't remember what I bought where...)
2. What dye would I use? Will the dye run on my other fabrics? Will it fade with time?
3. Do you have any favorite tricks to using it?

If you use another method, you like, I am open to suggestions.

I tend to favor elastic casings for my diapers.

I'm getting ready to make a dozen trainers from the Darling Diaper Potty Dance Pants pattern. I'm sticking with her basic instructions for T&T. The legs have lastin sewn to the PUL side so they will roll in, and the waist has a casing for 1/2" polybraid. I just finished cutting out the pieces today to make the first one, so I won't be able to tell you how it looks on a child (it's for a 6 year old, so not exactly a toddler ) until next week.

For FOE... I got mine from OSDS. If you check the various shops in the diaper supplies sticky, I'm sure there are other places that have it too. I haven't dyed my FOE, but I think that'd be cool.

That sounds like it might work for me. I have been sewing some pockets with the fleece rolling out (cotton woven PUL) and it is miserable. I sew with the laminate up - towards my teflon foot - so the elastic has to be underneath. It's very hard to sew elastic when I can't see what I am doing with it. So I am about done with that style.

I had been wondering about the DD Potty Dance Pattern. I see everyone rave about it, but thought it was too soon to start looking so I have not been paying as close attention. I'm sure I'll need mostly diapers for a while yet, but DS wants something to wear at home when he can check out the potty every couple of minutes. I need side snapping for just in case, but I think I can alter a pattern for that as long as it has a good fit. I will look at that site and check it out.

I bought FOE from at least 3 different places. Some I like, some I do not. That is why I am having a problem...

OK - so I looked at the DD pattern. I see it has the with/without side snaps options. Is it too "poofy"? Or do I really need this amount of "poof" in order to make pulling up and down easier? I know I have older boys, but I really don't remember - and besides, we were not doing cloth yet with them. Also, does the rise generally come all the way to the waist or go lower?

I think I'll make some like this. But I am still wondering about the FOE...

I can't answer your fit questions yet, since I haven't made the first one, but I'll post pictures when I get it done! I can try it out on my DS, although it will likely be big in the thigh (he has a 20.5" waist but 10" thighs... the size large has 11"+ thighs, and that's the size I'm making for my 6 year old nephew).

Great! Thanks for posting the measurements - that is even more helpful! Your pictures are just what I needed to answer the questions I had about that pattern.
