Okay, now I am freaking out!

I have another post on here about getting my membranes stripped today. Now after looking around on the internet I find that if you are GBS+ you should not have it done because it could kill the baby! OMG! What have I done! Does anyone have any knowledge about the likelihood of something that horrible happening!

Due today, but it looks like baby has other plans

I have mostly seen anecdotal evidence for bad outcomes (fetal GBS infection), which I agree, are scary to read about, but don't reflect all the people who get membranes stripped and have no problems. I think that the evidence is not strong one way or another, and you can hope for the best. Many docs/MW strip despite GBS positive signs, and mine isn't worried about it (although I personally don't feel comfortable with it), although maybe you can talk with your doc about your concerns?

My understanding is that the danger from stripping the membranes comes only because you can break the bag of waters.

GBS transmission is relatively rare, and yes scary, but the rate of infant death is very very low.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but most countries with public funded health care don't bother testing for GBS because transmission rates are so phenomenally low- the US does it mostly because it's another thing they can add on the bill to the insurance company (plus the antibiotics- plus monitoring the baby after birth- plus-plus-plus)
