slings, pouches and baby carriers

with my dd I bought several slings, a snugli, a fleece pouch made to my size and NONE of them were comfy for me. I am 5'1 with enormous boobs and a short waist. I was thinking of getting a baby bjorn but the drawback is I can't nurse in it and I have heard it can be bad for their spine.

I am not sure what I will do this time. I did not get my fleece pouch until she was 4 months and then I was wearing it over bulky winter clothing. This baby is due mid-may so the weater will be warm but the clothing will be lighter. I will try it when the babe is a newborn and see how it works out. Even with the snugli which I only used twice for short periods hung down to my knees with my few day old dd in it because I am so short.

I would really like something comfy to wear my baby in - especially now that I already have a child to keep after.

Well, the adjustability of a wrap, especially one you make yourself-to your own specifications-cannot be beat IMO. I also have very large breasts and use them often. If you make them wide enough, you can even avoid the whole "lift and separate" phenomenon. I would also think that an adjustable ring sling would work for you, making sure to order a shorter tail.

Actually I was looking for something else for the other sling thread and came across this. This, well, let's just say this would have been a wonderful thing to know last time around. Sling nursing with larger breasts.

I'm also short-waisted and I'm just under 5'4". I have big boobs, but I wouldn't say they're gigantic. To give you an idea: In the early days of nursing I think I was a 32DDD. Pre-pg #1 I was a 32D. And, before this pg, I settled somewhere between a 32D and 32DD.

Anyway, I my ring slings. They can't be beat. I can cinch it up so the baby is above my waist and just kind of lays on my chest. As long as the tail isn't too long, it should work well for you. I'm hoping to try a pouch this time for the early days. I'm looking at the Mamma's Milk (www.mammasmilk.com) pouches, since they come in so many sizes, and she has a handy sizing tool. I probably won't order one until shortly before I'm due, though. That way, if it doesn't fit, I can exchange it for a different size.

I have a ring sling that I like, but I'm really liking the looks of those mei tai's. I'm thinking of getting one for when the baby gets a little older! I also have a mesh-like shower-sling that I love. It's so airy and lightweight. I got it from www.tentoes.com
