You know I thought having to transfer in active labor would be a nightmare but it wasn't. My HBAC turned into a hospital VBAC - I transferred after ~ 6 hours of pushing stage. But you know, my contractions stopped almost completely during the transfer (which took about 20mins in traffic). And when I got to the hospital my cervix had gone back to 9 also. I don't recommend travelling in active labor but it wasn't as bad as I thought.
I think Tricare goes on how many MILES you are from the provider. Now my MTF is only 20mins away BUT in peak hour it's at least 1 hour. (And does Tricare care about peak hour traffic? NO!) And if I'd have used my MTF I would have had to time my arrival at the hospital around the peak hour traffic. Which is what I did with my first baby, I think I arrived at the hospital when I was about 5cm.
