Washing hands after using the potty

I don't want to battle over anything. What do I do to get my daughter to wash her hands after she uses the potty without having a power struggle?

Any ideas?

She said it takes too long. That's why she doesn't want to wash her hands.

My kids like the soap pumps that make it foamy. Use a whole lot less soap too! Also what about a hand sanitizer? There are natural ones too. I just googled and found this link. I know there are others.

That would be quick and still get the job done.

Hand sanitizer is a decent idea and it only takes a second to put on. You can just get the alcohol-based stuff and not the anti-bacterial stuff which many people (including me) don't care for. It is a bit drying on the hands but other than that I don't think it is harmful.

Also, would she dig a foam pump soap thing? I am 28 and I think they are so cool My mom has one that I use all the time when I visit...

Maybe you could cut a deal where washing after peeing is optional (still preferred, but urine is sterile)... but that there needs to be some form of hand cleaning after poop because that can honestly make you or someone else sick....

Good luck!

ETA: we posted the same suggestions at the same time...whoops!

I agree with the pp's. I think the foam soap is cool.....isnt there a new one by J&J ...the Kandoo stuff? I think the hand gel is reasonable too. I have SUCH an issue with handwashing in my house....it's where my ocd comes out....everyone HAS to wash their hands when we get home from somewhere and after using the bathroom.......ESPECIALLY PUBLIC RESTROOMS...where by the way, never open the door with your clean hands after using a public restroom, always always use a paper towel or something.....people dont wash their hands in public and it grosses me out.....(yes, I have issues : )

We've got fancy-smelling foamy soap but that isn't good enough. The hand sanitizer is a fantastic idea!! Why didn't I think of that? LOL

Thanks

I have tried making it seem really repulsive to not wash our hands, because I honestly feel it is. And we have a little song that goes along with it, but we use this for all hand washing. And sometimes I let her use "hanitizer" as she calls it. But I'm kind of a stickler about it, not to the point of a battle, but pretty close.

I take a slightly soapy washcloth and wipe his hands with it. I'll be honest, my ds is a pill about washing his hands, so that is our compromise.
He dislikes the washcloth about as much as the sink washing so he will usually go to the sink when he sees me coming at him with the washcloth.

Sometimes if I stop the drain and fill the sink up with water and a little soap he'll climb up and stick his hands right in. Then I just give him a quick rinse.

ITA, that is one of my big pet peeves, I see it all the time as well.
