hypothyroidism anyone?

I'm excited to be here, but a little scared at the moment. I had an appt with my GP Tuesday to get my TSH levels checked and they came back today elevated. So the dr. increased my synthroid and I'll need to be retested in 4-6 weeks. Meanwhile, I'm scared b/c my pregnancy last year ended in a m/c at 10 weeks (baby prob stopped growing at 6) and one of the unusual events in my pregnancy was my TSH levels being super high at 8 weeks, which I feel was indicative of something wrong, not a cause of the m/c.
Anyway, I wondered if anyone else has had experience with pregnancy and hypothyroidism. My levels stayed fine during my first pregnancy. And I know they can need adjustment early in a preg b/c of all the estrogen. And I'm trying to make myself feel better by thinking that I've only known I was preggers for one week and I've already had my TSH levels tested and had my meds adjusted and maybe everything will be o.k. But it's still scary. I just have to trust that I'm doing all I can and what will be will be. I'll see my endocronologist next week, but there's nothing he can do but adjust my synthroid as needed...
Anyway, just wanted a place to express my concern.

Hi Janola, congratulations on your pregnancy! I've been dealing with hypothyroidism since I finished chemo/radiation for cancer about 6 years ago. My levels have been very stable for the last several years and I had no problems whatsoever with my last pregnancy. Try not to worry too much, it doesn't sound like your TSH levels had anything to do with your m/c. I understand how scary it can be but it sounds like you're really on top of things!

not optimisitc

thanks, Booberry, but I woke up this morning and I just don't feel pregnant anymore. My breasts are no longer sore, I'm not hungry or nauseas, and I just don't think this babe is going to stay.

don't lose hope yet! some days you tend to feel more preg than others. I hope this one sticks! hugs, mama.

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling much better this evening and realize that I was a bit reactionary when I awoke this a.m. Must be those surging hormones. I'm all for this babe staying!

Hi mama. Congrats.
I too have hypothroidism, actually hashimoto's. Anyway I believe in my heart that my two m/s were the result of an undiagnosed problem. Actually I knew something was wrong but I was ignored. Anyway as soon as I was placed on synthroid and my tsh went to a manageable 2, I became pregnant.

I was insane with getting my tsh levels checked. My endo. told me I could get it checked 1x every trimester, but for me that wasn't enough. Now trying to remember my pregnancy w/ my ds. I got my thyroid checked at 6 wks and I think I was 2ish, got in checked at 8wks and was 4ish. To make a long story- short from 6 wks to 20 wks I got my thyroid checked every 4 wks. I started at 25mcg and by 40 wks was at 100mcg. I believe my levels tapered off around the start of the 3rd trimester. Now supposevly to maintain a healthy pregnancy a tsh should be around 2.

Also w/ hypothroidism, you have a higher chance of developing gestational diabetes. I started getting tested for gest. diabetes I think around 16 wks and was checked a total of 3x. Luckily I didn't get them...

good luck..

**also the fetal thryoid is developed around 8wks. So that may be why your's was elevated at that time.. That's also why it's important to have your tsh under control in the first tri..
