Tell me about these things. I've never heard about these.

Stadol is a Narcotic analgesics and is given to relieve pain before and during surgery or during labor and delivery. I give it I.M. to patients all the time with Phenergan.
I am not sure about the other one you are asking about. Are you thinking about having these during labor?

AROM= artificial rupture of membranes....breaking your bag of waters. Almost always a BAD idea (but necessary if going to have an internal fetal monitor-IFM).

: to both of the pps.

Stadol can have some funky side effects, so I would definitly be careful with that. Some people do fine, but some people feel crazy when they take it, I know my friend hated it because it didn't take the pain away and made her feel psyco.

AROM is done routinly in hospitals at around 4cm to 'help speed up labor' but the research shows that it actually only helps most woman by an hour or so. Plus once they break your water most hospitals give you 24 hours to have the baby before they will push for a c-section. There are also other draw backs but for the life of me I can't really remember then and don't want to post incorrect info.

In my opinion, Stadol is EVIL! I unfortunately had it during labor with DS#1. All it did was make me feel and drunk, but all the contraction pain was still there in full force. Furthermore, since it was a narcotic and I got 2 doses, I absolutely could not get my son to wake up and latch on well when he was born.

I would not recommend this drug to anyone!

The other drawbacks are: Increased risk of infection and cord prolapse. I know there's more but I can't think of them now.

I had Stadol when I was in the hospital for pre-term labor with DS. (The mag sulfate was like liquid pain going in my veins and also gave me a horrible headache.) I was hoping it would allow me to get some rest but no such luck. I would start to drop off to sleep but would wake up every 5 minutes to talk to the weird people coming in my room (I was hallucinating like crazy).

I have been seeing those terms here, and didn't know what they meant. I won't be having either one this time around. I had AROM with Ben (what a handy little term). I don't think it did any harm, but it didn't help at all. I really only agreed to it, and the prostaglandin gel, and the pit, and the fetal monitoring to postpone the c-section my Ob was determined to give me. I didn't have one btw.

Ok, I had Demerol and it was horrific--worse than all the other interventions. This time, if I can't go drug free, I'll jump straight to the epidural. I noticed that a lot of women on here are saying "I only had a little stadol". Is it better than other drugs? I looked it up and it just said analgesic.
