midwifeless weekend!

Sheesh, as if it wasn't bad enough my homebirth midwife lost her OB back-up she needed to do my VBAC birth at 31 weeks, I am now midwifeless for the weekend.

My new midwife decided to put in several weeks notice to her office that she is opting to leave the office (she works with only 1 OB) so instead of let her continue to work, he asks her to promptly leave. So I show up to my appt. and find out by cell phone that she is not in the office (thank you nosy friends who work in all the hospitals across town) so I can not have my check up with my MW since she has no office or insurance/protocol until Monday. Do I need this kind of stress at 40 weeks?

She told me "I can still do your labor support" but it will be some doc I don't know showing up for the birth. I am thinking, well with my other ex-midwife doula, her student, my few closest pals who all show up for each other's labors, my DH, I don't know how much labor support I need. I think I will laugh my way through labor at all of the "help" I bring with me. Those poor nurses, they are in for a treat! I think I will give them permission to hide at the nurses station and just come check on us when they hear a baby cry!

I tried to reassure my MW by re-emphasizing that I am one of the people who make 42 weeks a normal gestational period. Besides, there is thanksgiving and I have theater tickets for next friday. It will probably be easier to care for this baby by placenta until after then anyway.

Okay, who is with me? Yay 40+ weeks!

Aaargh! OMG: I have no idea how you remain so calm about this. I'm bursting into tears when I can't control the TV schedules, let alone important stuff like midwives...
