Gas stoves with controls that are not right at toddler height?

Does such a thing exist? I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that we have to replace our stove. We have electric and would liek to get dual-fuel if we can afford to. I just went windows-shopping at Sears.com and ALL the gas/dual fuel stoves have the burner controls right smack in the front! Uhhhhh... that seems like a very bad idea! Does anyone have a brilliant way of child-proofing this? Know of a gas/dual fuel stove that has its controls up higher?

TIA!

Kenmoore dual fuel with convection

I thought they stopped making the controls up front years ago. But then, I've only had electric for the past 10 years or so, even though I'd prefer gas.

I don't know anything about the brands you've mentioned, but the way my mom kid proofed was to take the knobs off the stove and keep them on the counter or in the cabinet.

If you buy a gas cooktop, then the controls aren't in the front. I heard gas cooktop and electric wall oven are the best combo.

That is good thinking. Unfortunately, I just need to replace my broken stove -- I don't have the budget to have my entire kitchen re-done. We would really like to re-do the kitchen, so we're toying with the idea of just fixing the stove to make it last until we can afford to re-do the kitchen versus deciding to buy another stove and not put any more money into the crappy old stove we have.

Our stove is definitely over twenty years old, is electric, and it's not even self-cleaning! Who buys a stove like that? Two of the burners are malfunctioning, the slpash pates (is that the term? the things that go under the element) are stained and even rusty in spots (and the replacement ones they sell don't fit), we've replaced one of the elements in the oven, and the knobs falls off frequently. Now one of the knobs has split in two. It's a little stupid crappy plastic part, and I'm not sure I can get a replacement part for it because the stove is so old.

Of course, I wouldn't care if it were old if it worked fine or if it was a good stove to start off with. But this was a low-end stove to begin with, and even when it works perfectly, it's not exactly all that. So I'm characterizing it as "soooo old" because I'm justifying to myself that replacing it is okay to do... I am much more of a repair, renew, recycle type than a run-right-out-and-buy-new type... I have to admit -- I am angry at my stove for ruining good food. It's not logical to be angry at an inanimate object, but there it is.

How about a drop-in cooktop with oven? It is a little different than an actual range and you would have to do a wee bit of retro-fitting but it might work. Of course, i have no idea what your kitchen looks like and if this would even be possible.

The Maytag with a double-oven has controls up top. It isn't dual-fuel but does have self-clean and really, is there any other feature you need? Besides, double-ovens are cool. Here is a pic

Jenn-Air and Kenmore both make pretty good stoves. I can't remember who makes the Kenmore ranges, but it is one of the few Sears-purchased appliances I have dealt with that has been problem-free. Don't get me started on their sewing machines.

But Jenn-Air is awesome. I have heard no complaints.

We just bought a new gas stove and got little childproof thingies to cover the controls. There is no way that either of my kids could get them open and turn on the stove. I'll find a link...
