Water

Do you filter your water? What kind of filtration system do you use? I'm looking for ideas for when we move. We use to have a filter in our fridge, but I'd like something a little more. I'm even thinking about getting a filter for the shower. What do you do for drinking water? There are so many options I get overwhelmed.

For $200-300 you could get a Reverse Osmosis system for just your kitchen, under the sink, which could also be linked to your fridge. Reverse Osmosis systems can even treat stinky well water....I definitely know a few people who had stinky well water before but now use RO and drink the water from their tap.

Does the water in your shower smell? Is it discolored? Why do you want to treat it? The only thing I've heard of for the shower is getting a water softener for the house but I think that is mostly for certain cases.

Personally, we get bottled spring water delivered despite our having fairly good city water at our house. It tastes better and we feel better about it.

We have an undersink filter from Amway that takes out a lot of stuff. It probably cost $250 (it was a gift). We also have had chlorine-filtering showerheads, but they're really expensive and need fairly frequent replacement. The drinking water filter is way better than Brita pitchers; besides taking out more stuff, it produces filtered water instantly.

Filters are definitely a more ecological choice than buying bottled water because the water transportation system is already in place and there is no packaging waste.

What do your filters filter out? Do they take chlorine and fluoride out of the water? I'm pretty sure Reverse Osmosis takes everything out of the water, but I don't think that other filters do that. I could be wrong though.
