pain in pelvis anyone?

Hey all. I am wondering if anyone else is going through this - in my last pregnancy I developed a lot of pain in my pelvis, down low right on my pubic bone. And now, it has returned already. If I am on my feet a lot, or very tired, it is especially painful. Tonight my dd ran into me, and her head hit the exact spot that is sore. : It is still throbbing. I haven't spoken to my OB about it yet, but last time around she recommended tylenol and certain ways to move to avoid increasing the pain. Well, I am not interested in the tylenol, but if anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to hear them. And if not, we can just commiserate. I have read good things about chiropractic treatment for this, but my insurance is really poor and already we are paying a small fortune for this pregnancy.

I used a ball, your birth ball, yoga ball...you can also use a couch. This is also great for your lower back pain. Kneel down in front of the ball, then position yourself onto the ball (with your torso-your chest and arms resting). Basically you want to be in "all fours" position, but with the ball/couch supporting your top weight. You want to arch your back/tuck your pelvis, slowly...then release. I spent the last 45 days of my last pregnancy on the ball! I took this from my prenatal yoga book, the position is called "angry cat" and anyone knowing more about yoga (LOL, so anyone really) could probably help more. This position is aimed toward back relief, but always gave me a lot of comfort for my pelvic pain, don't know why. I hope that you find something that gives you comfort!

I had extreme pain last pregnancy, and have started noticing the pain already with this one when I overdue it.
I plan on using a chiropractor. I had to stop because of co-pays adding up, but plan on starting again in January.
A friend of a friend didn't have success with chiro or yoga, instead used a physical therapist, and had great success.
I am waiting to be told what the exercises are from my friend. When I find out I will share.

The pain was debilitaing (sp?) at times last time, and I worry about later in this pregnancy.

I know how awful it is- maybe a google search will turn up appropriate physical therapy exercises.

I know that yoga pose as "cat-dog pose" -- and I do it without the ball as a support, tho you can do it either way.

Without the ball: get on all fours, making sure your legs are under your hips and your hands are under your shoulders (this allignment is important!) From a starting neutral position, breath in, looking up and tucking your pelvis up (your butt will rise into the air). This should give you an over pronounced arch in your spine. Now, breathing out, tuck your tailbone under and cave into your abdomen, looking down. Continue for as long as feels right, with long breaths. Return to neutral before rising

(BTW, don't look up in this pose if you're having neck issues.)

I was having some hip issues yesterday (pain in my left hip) and did Cat-Dog and it was really nice Today = no pain!

Another good pose for lower back pain (which goes along with pelvic pain sometimes) is child's pose (aka baby pose). I like to do this with my arms outstretched in front of me.

Sitting back on your heels (with your knees wide enough to accomadate your belly), lean forward on an exhale and stay there for several breaths. You can have your arms outstretched, or to the sides. You can also place a pillow as a support under your chest/ head, which makes this pose very relaxing.

See: http://yogajournal.com/ for photos and more indepth discussions of these poses, including more hip openers/ pelvic pain helping poses.

HTH!

We spent all day hiking Monday and that night my pelvis bone felt like someone had kicked it - I had a very hard time sleeping. I am going back to the chiro since the yoga positions have not worked for me. Sorry you have it too...

I am just now starting to get this pain - oooh, OUCH! Feels like I've been kicked or have a bad bruise. I'll try the exercise, hope that will help! So, you just hold the position for a while?

Max- I think maybe I posted to your thread last week or so on the I'm pregnant forum... but I suspect- actually I'm sure, it's just self-diagnosed- that I have SPD/PSD (Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction). I can tell that my pelvis is separating too much (1st pg was fine, 2nd pg I noticed a bit of pain at the end) and my pubic area gets very sore from certain activities.

So, a lot of things hurt. Stepping in and out of the bathtub (we're building on still so no shower yet), sex, working out on certain machines, getting my pants on, carrying ds, and more.

What has helped me the most is to quit doing the machine at Curves that requires opening my legs wide, sitting down to put my pants on and take them off, making sure I don't kick away the pillow between my knees in bed, rolling over and sliding off the bed with legs together, and not carrying my ds unless it's absolutely necessary. Our washer and dryer are down steep stairs in the basement so dh has laundry duty (I fold once it's back upstairs). Umm, what else?

I've read that chiro can help and certain therapists too. I've been uninsured forever, so I have to not only pay for my visits but I don't get a break on the price either but I'm going to have to go and just fork over the money. Chiropractic definitely helped my sciatic pain last time.

Today has been a bad day, my left hip is killing me and so is my pubic bone. Ah well, it's worth it for this baby, I just don't want to damage things too much and I want the separation to resolve itself quickly after the birth.

PS- Moms with pubic separation seem to have fast births- like 45 minutes to an hour or so.

I found this article by doing a search and it was REALLY informative:

Think I'll look for a chiropractor, too.

I had this last time starting around 5 months. Not bad at first, but by the end I could not sleep and some days could barely walk.

It started this time around 2.5 months. It is not very bad yet, painful but not agonizing.
