how much bleeding, post birth visit??

Hi all,
Wanted to get your ideas. How much bleeding did you have right after the birth? My baby (first one, homebirth) is 6 months old. At the time, I didn't think it was a lot of blood, but now I'm wondering. I did push a LONG time. .............Also, did any of you have a "sum it up/review" type meeting/apt. with your midwife? I had the 6 week check, but then I wasn't much in the mood to talk about the birth, didn't care about details then. Now that time has passed, I'm wondering about things from the midwife's perspective. ............And another thing, did any of you get a copy of your birth paperwork? I've asked for this, but have not gotten a copy and don't know if it's typical not to give out this info.

Thanks! (It was a positive experience for me, I just have some questions.)

I don't remember thinking I had too much bleeding for either of my homebirths. I figured it was normal. When the midwife asked at the 2 day visit she didn't seem concerned.

I did go to my 6 week visits. She checked me out and made sure everything was normal. As I didn't go to pediatricians, she weighed them. I enjoyed the last visit with her and hated to leave!

I didn't ask for my paperwork, but she sent the birth reports to my new midwife without problem after we moved out of her area.

I would say this was my experience as well. I stayed put (in bed) for awhile so I found my bleeding to be minimal. I had expected more. Just curious what you're looking for with getting the paperwork?

My bleeding lasted 2 weeks, but seemed in the range of normal for what I had read, a few very large clots, it would pick up if I went out walking & then slow down when I rested. I took it easy & was okay.
I did get a copy of the mw paperwork, it's standard practice with our Midwifery Group, and it was good to have as a way to double check my memory of events as well as a cool thing to show dd someday! If you want your paperwork, you should definitely get it, it's your right!

my mw puts 2 maxipads in my underwear and tells me (right after the birth) that if I soak through that quicker than 2 hours, and it continues like that to call her. Usually the first day I do have to change them every two hours, then it slows down considerably. I do bleed heavily (like a heavy period) for at least a week before it really slows down.

Thanks for the info. I was just wanting a copy of the paperwork just to have, from someone who may remember details better than I did, to show my baby some day... As far as the bleeding, I remember the midwife removing one or two of those under bed pads that were full of blood. That was right after the birth, but she gave me something to help the contractions stop and was little bleeding after that. I was just wondering moments after the birth what would be "normal."
