I need some new books to read. I like most anything. I just finished to sociology type books, I heard about them on c-span books while flipping channels! One was the Genius Factory about this nobel prize sperm bank from the 80's. Very interesting. Has anyone read anything good lately?

Amazing isn't it. Dd just turned 2 and I am finally getting to read again. I used to be a voracious reader and I have really missed it. Now dd is taking nice long afternoon naps and goes to bed at 8, so I have decided to take some of that time to revive my reading and boy it feels good!

I read The Language Instinct , by Steven Pinker, several years ago, and found it very interesting. I'm trying to get into How the Mind Works, by the same author, but keep getting sidetracked by fiction. I just finished Broken for You , by Stephanie Kallos, for my book club (I liked it ok, didn't love it), and want to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe before I take my older kids to see the movie. (No, I never read it as a child!)

The Queen's Fool, by Philippa Gregory, is a good read if you like historical fiction.

If you're into social science you should check out "The Seven Daughters of Eve" by Brian Sykes or "The Mummy Congress" by Heather Pringle both are very fascinating. The first deals with tracing human origins through mitochondrial genetics and the second is about the history of mummification, There is a very interesting section about how the earliest mummies may have been created by mothers.

In the sociology/anthropology department: Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies -by Jared Diamond. This was just excellent. Very illuminating.

I'm currently reading: Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

Oh also, Everything Is Illuminated It's very funny, bittersweet and strange.
