I think I ruined the top of my dresser

Last year we got a new bedroom set for our anniversary. It was pretty expensive, but we rationalized hey this will be our lifetime bedroom set. Well today I noticed that I had had a bottle of liquid spill on the top a little and there is about an 8 inch or longer place where it completely removed the stain and varnish. I clean it up with murphy's oil wipes and then tried the murphy's scratch cover (I tried the light and the dark). You can still see it. It is a medium oak color. I am wondering if I could wipe a matching stain across it if that could fix it (or at least make it look almost perfect?) Is there any kind of varnish I could wipe across it? I am so mad at myself. I don't deserve anything nice. I can't take care of it right...

any ideas on how to make it look better without refinishing the entire top?

I would call a furniture repair shop (or the store where you purchased it) and ask to have someone touch it up. Someone who knows what they are doing should be able to make the mark almost invisible.

HTH.

Oh no! Don't be so hard on yourself...you do deserve to have something nice! Chalk this up to a lesson learned...I hope the cost to repair the damage is minimal. Good luck!

I can only dream about having a beautiful bedroom set. Every time I see a furniture commercial on TV I think about how wonderful our room would look, how comfortable we could be...oooh, it's SO NICE...then I snap back to reality and the mish-mash furniture we currently have. Ugh.

...oh, someday we'll buy that beautiful bedroom set, someday...

If you can't fix it can you set a runner over the stain, candles, a mirrored dish? Hoping you get a solution quick!!!

Okay, this sounds totally wierd, but I swear it works.

Take vegetable oil (not olive...just plain old veggie oil) and salt. Pour oil and salt onto the mark and rub it in. Wipe away and leave it alone. It won't be gone 100% but it will be much less noticeable.

hire a professional to take a look at it
and not to trash the other posts but you amy not want to do anything else to it
it might screw up your chances of getting it fixed

Please dont flame me :

something else to try

You could also try a product by Circa 1850, called Terra Nova Liquid Pumice, it takes out most water marks and doesnt' damage the surface. I ordered it and just got some yesterday.
