Just had breast surgery while lactating

Well I had my breast surgery yesterday. All went very well. There
were actually 2 golf ball sized lumps that were removed. It looks
like my scar is about 2-3 inches. On the top away from the
nipple...yes! Not too much pain yesterday but I am pretty sore
today.

The surgery was maybe an hour and we were pretty much home in the
noon hour. The most annoying thing is how uncomfortable the chair is
in the recovery room. I felt a little nautious but didn't get
sick...thankfully. When we got home I just went to bed and slept for
about three hours.

They were great about us bringing Jake with us and me nursing him
before and after the surgery on the non surgical side. The
anesethiologist was really great about it and told us he didn't care
if I nursed him or not. It was nice to not have to put up a fight to
feed my son. I actually nursed him for a bit when I was lucid enough
but I just wasn't comfortable so I filled his tummy a bit and he was
fine until we went home.

And I have nursed on the left side already with no adverse affects
that I can see A friend was over and gave me some helpful advice
and taking half a pain pill dose helped too. A few surges of pain
but what I had to worry about more was jake punching and kicking me.

So since the supply is low on that side he gets a little frustrated
so I will have to ease back onto that side. I don't want to focus on
it too much and lower the amount I am already getting on the other
side.

It feels a bit invigorating to be going against my dr's advice of
not nursing on that side and doing what feels right for my body.
Anyway I am just glad it is all over with.

I'm glad to hear that you're recovering and all is going well. Just FYI, it's quite possible to nurse on one side only, the baby will get plenty of milk but it might make you (more) lopsided.

I hope you heal quickly, and kudos to you for continuing to nurse your son!

Yes thankfully with the aid of a few herbs I was able to nurse him on the right side pretty much until now so about 4 weeks. I also work FT and was just pumping on the right side for him while I was at work.

I didn't think about that. I am going to write a story for LLL.

I think I remember your original post. Glad that you are recovering so well, that your baby can keep nursing, and hoping that your pathology is all benign!
