Health ministry calms consumers of Nestle formula

Italian authorities have ordered that 30 million liters of Nestle infant
formula, with a September 2006 expiration date, be recalled. The liquid
formula, sold in TetraPaks, is contaminated with the ink used in the

Latte Mio and Nidina from Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese
supermarkets and pharmacies. The president of the Spanish Food Safety
Agency, Félix Lobo, sent a "message of calm" to parents of babies who have
consumed Nestle formula, and guaranteed that there is no health risk. He
said, "There is no problem for those who have already consumed the product.
For the moment, nobody has been affected."

I am so glad you posted this. I was walking from one room to the next yesterday and heard something briefly on NPR about this. Ugggh. I can't believe they are telling all these families that it is no problem. I would be freaked out if there were contaminants in my kid's formula.

Actually, today the Italian Istituto Superiore di Sanità (health institute) said: "The risk of genotoxic effects in consequnce of the ingestion of Itx is absent or marginal".
So, everybody, let's drink ink!

To add: today Milupa formula for infants has been recalled for the same problem as it was Nestlè. Aptamil 2 (latte di proseguimento), best before 10 december 2005; Aptamil Soia 2, best before 25 march 2006; Babymil, best before 28 february 2006, e Aptamil 1, best before 30 june 2006.
In Sicily, a 7 months baby is now in the Siracusa hospital for being sick after drinking Aptamil 2.
