Anyone used hynobirthing for HB?

Has anyone used hypnobirthing or hypnobabies for their HB? My oldest two were born at home and all went well, although they were very long labors due to both being posterior. This time however, I have acute Lyme disease and have trouble with a dislocated pelvis and problem sacrum due to the Lyme and previous injuries. Needless to say, I am concerned about this birth and am wondering if hypnobirthing might help with the process. I am in a lot of pain and worry that I could prolong the birth due to my own pain and fears this time about the baby fitting through the pelvis.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am currently 30 weeks and feel that there isn't much time left to figure something out.

Hello! I am using the Hypbirth home study program. I bought the cd's off of Ebay for under $100. I originally bought them right before I got pregnant to make the ride to the hospital more comfortable . What a long way I've come since then!!! I am now about 4 months and planning to use them during my home birth. I haven't had a chance to use them during birth yet (obviously!) but they have had a huge affect on my sleeping. I've had lots of problems with insomnia in past pregnancies and the relaxation techniques I have learned have been invaluable. If all else fails, I can put one of the cds on and I'm asleep in minutes. I would also say that the confidence I have gained from doing the program was a big influence in me to switch from a planned hospital birth w/ an epidural to a home birth. HTH!!

Yes, I have for both my homebirths (HypnoBirthing for my first and Imagery Birthing for my second and current pregnancy).

At 30 weeks, I think you're PERFECT to start a program. There are a lot of them to choose from, but they're all based on the exact same 1940's hypnosis to relieve pain in childbirth studies. They all use pretty much the same wording even. Just each program has a slightly different feel. Personally, I prefer the multi-hypno programs as opposed to the one hypno/one affirmation program like HypnoBirthing. I just wanted some variety. They ALL work IF (and that's a big IF) you practice the hypno CD every single day. If you don't, you'll get the pregnancy benefits, but not so much the relief during labor.

Oh, I should note, too. You don't actually have to listen to the tapes during birth/labor. Your mind remembers all that it's learned and puts everything into practice when needed.

There are a LOT of threads here in Homebirth about hypno. If you do a search for them, you'll find a lot more experiences.

I used Hypnobabies, and I LOVED it! I didn't use it quite as much as I should have and get as good at it as I should have, but it made a HUGE difference. I was relaxed my DD's birth progressed every quickly...about 2 hours of active labor, only about 1 hour of which was "hard".

I used hybirth and really liked it. You are not too late to start...I think it rec starting arounf 32 weeks but you can start even later if you are willing to work longer each day.

I'm not actually sure which program I usd..it was some variant of hypnobirthing. A doula who was also trained in hypnobirthing came to our house & gave dw & I private lessons.
We really did NOT click with her, but the lessons were nice time together to focus on preparing for labour. I listened to the cd everyday for the last 35+ days of my pregnancy, and during early labour. My birth was wonderful, not pain free, but mostly without fear, relaxed, powerful, intensely private and pretty fast (6.5 hours to go from 1cm to 9 cm, 1.5 hours to push out dd). I think the techniques really helped dw be a better coach as well, and I know the affirmations and deep concentration helped me throughout labour.

Thankyou so much for all of the help and insight. I am sorry that I didn't reply sooner, but we were away for Thanksgiving.

I believe that I will order the home study course and get started as soon as possible!!!
